Lawrence "Bud"
Brunett

Lawrence “Bud” Brunett

Passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 age, 93 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Barbara Brunett for 67 wonderful years, who preceded Bud in death in 2021. Loving father of Lori (Scott) Johnson, Jim Brunett and David (Stacie) Brunett.  Proud grandpa of Michael (Nikki) Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Alison (Nick) Itsines, Eli (Kaelin) Brunett, Zephan (Samantha) Brunett, April (James) Disch and Angela Brunett. Great grandpa of Niko, Xander, Easton, Bayler, Leighton, Brooks, Ember, Thomas, Jace, Alyvia, Damien, Claire and Thor. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Bud attended West Allis Hale High School and earned his Associate Degree from Milwaukee Area Technical College in 1971. He returned to MATC, taking several hobby classes.  Bud was happiest when immersed in his projects, whether building pine wood derby cars, soap box derby cars or crafting beautiful jewelry and art through his lapidary “rock shop.” His most celebrated passion, however, was cross-stitching. Over the years, he created numerous  intricately detailed and stunning pieces, each professionally framed and now treasured by family and close friends as lasting reminders of his artistry and devotion.
Bud was involved with his sons, Jim and Dave, Webelo and Boy Scout troops. Any recollection of his time coaching his daughter Lori’s softball team, Bruno’s Brutes, put a smile on his face! He played golf and baseball in his younger years. Golf was the game he loved most. “Drive for show and putt for dough!” Each fall, you could count on Bud cheering for the Packers, and spending time enjoying golf on TV. He was a big PGA and NFL fan.
Bud was drafted into the United States Army and served two years ,state side, during the Korean War. He was with Company B of the 92nd Engineering Brigade, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His time in service left a lasting and positive mark on his life. With a sharp mind until his last days he could rattle off his service ID, exact enlistment, and discharge dates.  In recognition of his dedication, in 2013, Bud was honored to participate in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.; nominated by fellow parishioners from his local church. The trip to D.C. meant so much to him!   Following his military service, Bud built a career with Wisconsin Electric Power Company. He worked as a forester clearing power lines. He was often gone working odd and long hours after storms. Later he worked as a standards lab technician. His commitment and work ethics reflected the same sense of duty and integrity that defined his life. He worked a 27 year stretch without taking a sick day.
Above all his accomplishments, Bud’s greatest joy was the love he shared with his family; his devoted wife, Barb, his children, and his grandchildren. He often spoke fondly of summer vacations spent at Clark’s Lake in Door County. Later in life, once the children were grown, Bud and Barb continued to make yearly trips to Door County. He treasured holidays and gatherings with family and friends, always bringing warmth and good humor to every occasion. Known for his sweet tooth and love of games, Bud was a friendly and spirited competitor in Dominoes, cribbage and Rummikub, his laughter and playful nature leaving lasting memories for all who shared those moments with him.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Bud’s many caregivers who supported him with compassion and dignity in his final years. Agrace and Moments Hospice provided exceptional care and comfort during the last two years of his life, ensuring his days were filled with kindness and respect. A special thank‑you goes to the wonderful staff at The Heights in Evansville, whose warmth and dedication made Bud feel truly at home. Though he was initially uncertain about moving to Evansville after spending his entire adult life in Milwaukee, he was blessed to be surrounded by such loving and attentive caregivers, people who treated him like family and brought him peace in his final chapter.
His true legacy will be his example by doing; to work with what you have and make the most of it, to never quit or give up, to try and stay positive, to stay busy working forward and not mire yourself in the past.
A private service for immediate family is being planned and will include full military honors in recognition of Bud’s service to his country. Bud and Barb will be laid to rest together at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin, where they will share eternal peace side by side.
