Karyl Ann Derra
Karyl Ann Derra (nee Kleinschmidt) passed away Monday, June 1, 2026 at the age of 83. Born June 25, 1942.
Karyl took great pride being the centerpiece in providing an immaculate and caring home for her husband, children and eventually grandchildren. Her love for her home and family extended into tending to her flowers around the house, bird watching in the yard and even further into nature camping in their trailer. She loved being home most of all. While there she would enjoy her sewing, crocheting, needlepointing and quilting projects and listening to easy listening and big band music, especially Lawrence Welk. She didn’t love peanut butter, but she loved shrimp and was known to treat herself to fudge and ice cream for dessert.
She liked watching Brewers baseball on television and collecting bird carvings.
Karyl will be deeply missed by her husband Joseph M. Derra; sons Kenneth (Julie), Michael (Christina), and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Derra; grandchildren Abagail, Andrew, Nicholas, Jacob and James; and brothers Karl (Bill) Kleinschmidt and Jeffrey Kleinschmidt as well as many other relatives and friends. Karyl was the daughter of the late Karl Kleinschmidt and the late Mary Kleinschmidt (nee O’Brien).
Special thanks to Right-At-Home In-Home Care and their many wonderful caretakers for their several years of caring for Karyl at home. Also, to Prohealth Care wound-care and at-home hospice nurses and staff for their daily visits attending to Karyl’s needs through her journey.
Visitation for Karyl will be Monday, June 8 from 9:00am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON CATHOLIC CHURCH, 12700 W. Howard Ave., New Berlin. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association are greatly appreciated at alz.org/wi.
Thoughts and prayers for Joe and family. It is so hard to lose the one you’ve spent a lifetime with, but know her love is always with you. The good memories will be a blessing to all of you.
Cindy.

Karyl was such a pleasure to be around. She would make me laugh all the time at the things she would tell me or I would tell her. But most of all the company ship was nice and getting to know her and Joe a little. Tords the end was kinds hard but I stuck till the end enjoyed it.
