Kenneth L. Van Handel

Kenneth L. Van Handel will be remembered as a devoted family man, a cherished friend, and a valued member of his community. He was the beloved husband of the late Florene (née Snider) and his first wife, Geri Bjergum, with whom he shared the joy of raising their sons, John and Brian (Christine). Kenneth’s legacy continues through his grandchildren—Kaleigh, Sean, and Kevin.

Born to the late Howard and Helen, Kenneth grew up surrounded by a loving family, including his siblings Kathy, Sue (Don) Behlendorf, the late Mary Hurab, Margie (Don) Swartzhoff, and Mark (Karen). He was also survived by his three great-grandchildren, his brother-in-law Ed Hurab and was a treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews, and a steadfast friend to countless others.

Kenneth dedicated many years of service to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where his work ethic and camaraderie left a lasting impression. He was a faithful member of Jubilee Christian Family Church, finding strength and fellowship within his spiritual community.

A man of many interests, Kenneth found joy in home improvement projects, fishing, music, and spending time outdoors. He had a special fondness for oatmeal raisin cookies and ice cream, simple pleasures that brought him comfort and delight.

Private services will be held at a later date to honor Kenneth’s memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, supporting a cause close to the family’s heart.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Azura Memory Care and St. Croix Hospice Care, whose kindness and support helped Kenneth complete his journey with dignity and peace.

Kenneth’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering love will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
