Peter A. Godfrey
On February 16th, 2026, the world lost a remarkable soul, Peter A. Godfrey, at the age of 84. He was a loving and strong husband to Elaine, whose partnership was the foundation of a lifetime of adventures and unwavering support. As a devoted father to Andrew (Suzanne), Andrea (Sharif), and Jonathan (Sara), and a cherished grandfather to Zachary, Nolan, Essix, Lillian, and Gabriel, Peter’s legacy lives on in the hearts and lives of his family.
Born in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, Peter’s roots were deep in the community and the values of the Midwest. He pursued his education at UW Platteville and UW Whitewater, later dedicating over 37 years of service to the Franklin School District as a math teacher at Forest Park Middle School. His commitment to education was not just a career, but a calling—one that led him to meet President Jimmy Carter to discuss the importance of public education, a moment of pride that reflected his lifelong advocacy.
Peter was a man of faith, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Faith Community, and a brother, brother-in-law, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched many. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, often found cheering for the Brewers, Bucks, Packers, and Badgers. He loved to fish and hunt with his family, and his passion for the outdoors was matched only by his love for travel, exploring the world with Elaine always by his side.
At home, Peter’s joy was found in the company of friends, playing Euchre and watching movies. His laughter, wisdom, and kindness made every gathering brighter. He leaves behind siblings James (Becky), June (Tony), and Laura (Philip), as well as a large extended family who will forever remember his strength and compassion.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 25th, from 10–10:45am at St. Mary’s Catholic Faith Community (9520 W. Forest Homes Ave. Hales Corners). A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or to St. Mary’s Catholic Faith Community, honoring Peter’s enduring spirit and commitment to causes close to his heart.
I will miss his wonderful smile and sense of humor as well as his support and caring
Knew Peter from his WEAC days. Condolences to the family. Kind regards to Andrea & Sharif.
We were colleagues, I observed his classes, he taught more than just math, he taught about life.
I learned a lot from him & have fond memories.
Just finding out about this now, I am so sorry to hear the news. I have so many memories of Peter. My thoughts are with the entire family. May he rest in paradise. Hugs.
