John Joseph Mertz

Called to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 age 92 years. Beloved husband of Jean A. Mertz (nee Krogmann) for 68 years. Loving dad of James (Sherri) Mertz, David (Deborah) Mertz, Daniel Mertz and Sheryl Dean; having been preceded in death by son Steven. Proud grandpa of Jacob (Lindsay) Mertz. Ashley (Justin) Schattschneider, Keiandre Dean, Samara Dean, Shawn (Dan) Carlson and Jesse (Sarah) Santos.  Great grandpa of Heidi Mertz, Megan Mertz, Julie Mertz, Emiliano (Chloe) Santos, Lauren Sandoval and Haily Santos. Great- great grandpa of Lorelei Santos. Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Family and friends will gather on Thursday, June 19 from 4-6 pm at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 6881 South 51st Street Franklin WI 53132. Memorial service at 6:00 pm. Military Honors will take place outside of the church following the service. US Air Force Veteran.

John, married to Jean for 68 years, was an exemplary husband and father of four sons and one daughter, and a devoted grandfather who inspired his family with his unwavering love and support. He enthusiastically cheered on his children’s sports endeavors, instilling in them a lifelong passion for competition. John cherished his summers spent fishing in Canada and playing golf, always finding joy in the simple things. As a dedicated member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church, John sang in the choir, played guitar, and harmonica, using his talents to uplift and inspire his community. Furthermore, he was an ardent Packers fan and a loyal alumnus of Michigan State Spartans.
