James Percy Longtine

Born on February 27, 1949, in Superior, Wisconsin. Jim grew up in Utica, Michigan and attended Concordia Ann Arbor from 1967-1970 and Concordia St. Paul from 1970-1974, where he enjoyed music and played in a folk band. After college he served in the United States Air Force until 1979. His military career reflected the qualities that defined him throughout his life – he was generous, dependable and quick with a laugh. Jim proudly served his country in the Wisconsin Air National Guard as a Navigator, retiring in 2004 as a Lieutenant Colonel. While in the Milwaukee area he built a life centered on family, faith, service and friendship.
A devoted member of Hales Corners Lutheran Church, Jim’s faith guided him throughout his life. In recent years, he found another special community at Steeple View Christian Senior Living, where he formed treasured friendships and was grateful for the neighbors who enriched his days.
Above all, Jim was a family man. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Pamela, a loving father to Caryn (Thomas) Meverden and Sara Hawkins; and a proud “Papa” to Elise Hawkins and Spenser Meverden. Nothing made him happier than attending his grandchildren’s musical performances, and he was the biggest fan, always cheering them on with pride.
Jim delighted in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed his daily crossword puzzles, searching for the best fish fries Wisconsin had to offer and always ready to compare notes on his latest discovery. He loved following eagle nest activity, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, and there was rarely a Diet Coke far from his side. Whether sharing a laugh, telling a story, or simply spending time with those he loved, Jim had a way of making people feel welcome. His kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering dependability will be remembered by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Pamela, his daughters, Caryn (Thomas) Meverden and Sara Hawkins; his cherished grandchildren, Elise Hawkins and Spenser Meverden, his brother Jeff (Kerry) Longtine, and many brothers and sisters-in-law, countless nieces and nephews, great nieces & nephews, great, great nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Longtine, Virginia (Graneman) Longtine, his brother, Jerome Longtine and his sister, Judy Williams.
Jim’s legacy is one of faithful service, quiet strength, generous love, and genuine joy in the people around him. He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, and all whose lives were brighter because they knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at HALES CORNERS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 12300 W. Janesville Rd, Hales Corners. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Family interment will be at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI

Jim was a kind and funny man. I always enjoyed visiting him at gatherings. I remember a Morkfest in particular at Lake Kegonsa State Park. It rained so hard it was going sideways. Jim never lost his cool or his smile.. He was a wonderful host. He will be missed.
Jim will be missed by many friends at Steeple View. We’ve known Jim for three years. He quickly became a friend with several quirky collections. He has been to most Kwik Trips in Wisconsin. He could prove it with a receipt for a jumbo Diet Coke. He could slso give you a review of most fish fries in the area. He will be truly missed by the Martindales. RIP Jim.
Very sorry to hear about Jim’s passing and I would like to express my sincere condolences to Pam and all his loved ones. Jim was always a lot of fun and the 128th would not be the same in my mind without him! Rest in peace Jimmy!!🙏🙏
Condolences to Jim’s family and friends. I worked with Jim for many years at the 128 ARW, He was dedicated to serving his country, a great role model for many of us, and I will hold him closely in my memory. We had some great times and many laughs together working for the Wing Commander. A story I recall was when the 128th was in Italy and the Milwaukee TV media accompanied our unit to do some stories. Along with a few others from the128th I was eating lunch with one of the reporters at a restaurant in town when the reporters spotted a “local” walking down the street wearing a Green Bay Packers jacket. The reporter jumped up and said: “I need to interview that guy to learn how they know about the Green Bay Packers here”, We did not interfere. The reporter dropped his napkin on the table and ran down the street to catch up with the man. We all watched as the reporter introduced himself to the man and the look on both of their faces as the reporter learned that the man was Jim Longtine. We all had a great laugh watching Jim suddenly stopped on the street for a press interview in Italy. Rest in Peace Sir.
Pam I am very saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. My prayers go out to you and your family. He was a true Brewer Fan and a great Packer Fan. I always enjoyed it when he stuck it to Kenney when the Packers beat the Bears. Jim was a true professional and a great leader. Jim will be missed.

My deepest symathy to Jim’s family. I knew Jim throuthout my career at the 128th… Initially intimidating to a young airman over time became known to me as a genuine leader, a man with a heart of gold, and a friend. The world is a little darker without you in it Jim, Rest in Peace.
