Dr. Morton M.
Soifer
Dr. Morton M. Soifer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and physician, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. John’s on the Lake in Milwaukee. He was 90 years old.
Born in 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island, Mort demonstrated an early dedication to learning and service that would define his life. He earned his undergraduate degree from Providence College in 1957, followed by his medical degree from Tufts Medical School in 1961.
Mort’s pediatric residency in Albany, New York, began in 1962, pausing between 1963 and 1965 while he served as a physician in the United States Navy Medical Corps, stationed at China Lake, California. He returned to Providence after his service, completed his residency, and went on to practice pediatrics in Bristol, Rhode Island, from 1965 to 1967.
With deeper curiosity in pediatrics, Mort turned his talents to medical research, joining Ross Laboratories in Columbus, Ohio, from 1967 to 1971, where he conducted research on foods and infant nutrition. In 1971, he again changed direction and brought his family to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he built a distinguished pediatric allergy and immunology practice, Allergy Associates. He practiced there for more than three decades before retiring in 2003.
Mort was a wonderfully complex man. He was unfailingly precise, and that same attention to detail flowed into the way he loved people: thoroughly, reliably, and without half-measure. In 1959, Mort married Naomi Fershtman, and together they built a life that spanned every kind of adventure including travel, career, and a growing family. By any measure, it was a beautiful life. By Mort’s own measure, his family was his proudest work.
He is survived by Naomi, his wife of 67 years; his sister, Ann Winograd; his sons, Jonathan Soifer and his wife, Kristin; Jeffrey Soifer and his wife, Ellen Peters; his grandchildren, Max Soifer and his wife, Stephanie; Anna Soifer; Lenna Shapiro and her husband, Evan; Lydia Soifer; Rebecca Soifer; and his great-granddaughter, Georgene Shapiro.
A memorial reception will be held Wednesday, April 22, at St. John’s on the Lake from 9:00 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
Hi! Mort gave me my first allergy moonlighting job at Allergy Associates in the late 1970s. I always liked him. I’m sorry I missed the remembrance on 4-22-26 at St John’s. With sympathy, Terry Graves

I had the pleasure of being one of Dr Soifers allergy nurses for many years at allergy associates. I learned so much from him. I considered him a great mentor. May he rest now. Many thoughts and prayers to Naomi and all who loved and knew him.
Mort and Naomi were members of one of the biking groups I’m in and it was my pleasure to ride with both of them for many years.
I overlapped with Mort professionally over the years when he came over to Children’s Hospital and joined the faculty. Was always a pleasure working with him. Sending my condolences to the family.
We met Mort and Naomi in the bike group and enjoyed all of our conversations as we rolled along the bike trails. We found we had a lot in common and we pass along our deepest condolences to Naomi. Mort was a fine person.
