Daniel Theodore Schilz, 59, of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025. Born on Oct. 29, 1966, in Cudahy, Wisconsin, Dan was known for the deep love he had for his late wife, Laura, and for the devotion he showed to his family. His kindness, generosity, and steady presence made him a beloved friend to many.

Dan is survived by his children, Indiana Schilz and McKenzie Schilz; his parents, Marilyn and Dallas Schilz; his sister, Dawn (Duffy Schultz) Jensrude; and his mother-in-law, Beverly Hecker. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Debbie Scaffidi, Lisa Wright (John Bebeau), and Kelly Saele; his brothers-in-law Randy Hecker (Siouing) and Rick Hecker; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Laura Hecker Schilz; his sister, Shelly Ryan; his father-in-law, Richard Hecker; and his brother-in-law, Michael Scaffidi.

Dan always put his family above all else. He cared for Laura with unwavering dedication as she battled Parkinson’s disease, going the extra mile for her every step of the way. He ensured his children had every opportunity possible and demonstrated daily what it meant to live with humility, love, and quiet strength. His example shaped the lives of those around him, reminding everyone of the goodness that comes from a selfless heart.

We cannot talk about Dan without mentioning basketball. He was an incredible athlete from Cudahy High School who helped lead the Packers to some of their best seasons. He coached both Indy and McKenzie in youth basketball, creating some of the best memories of his life.

An open visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Oak Creek, followed by a service for those who wish to attend.

Dan’s memory will live on in the countless lives he touched and in the love he shared so freely.

Our prayers reach out to Dan’s family. Its so sad to hear such young people passing. No parent should have their children pass before them, and his parents have now lost three, including daughter-in-law Laura. Many good family memories of Danny and sisters Michelle. and Dawn.

I am Shocked and saddened by this news, and cant imagine the pain and sorrow Dallas, Marilyn and Dawn are going through especially Indy and Mac, my thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. I have known Danny since middle school, attended basketball camps together and after graduation was lucky enough to still see him and get together with both his family and the Scaffidi’s. Gone to early and you will truly be missed!!!!

I’ve known Danny since before I can remember, literally. My parents finished their house next door to the Schilz’s when I was a year old. The rest was history. We played and played with all the kids from the neighborhood. I spent almost as much time in their house as mine. Danny was my best friend growing up. He became the popular basketball team captain, I was the irritating not jock friend he took along for the ride. Had a great time with Mark, Pete, John and Joe to name just a few…. Drifted apart after high school and I migrated across the country. We chatted on and off over the past few years and I was So glad I got to spend just a little time with him in October . I’ll miss Danny forever…
