  • Memorial Visitation January 12th, 2026 at ST. VERONICA’S CONGREGATION (4001 S. Whitnall Ave. Milwaukee, WI. ) from 9am-11am followed by Mass at 11am.

William “Scott” Weyda

William “Scott” Weyda of Greendale, WI passed into eternal life on December 25, 2025.  He was born on January 6, 1945, to the late William and Laurette (nee Nowicki) Weyda.  On October 24, 1970, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Frieda Dennerlein.  Their love was a visible testament to the Sacrament of Marriage.

Scott attended Don Bosco High School in Milwaukee and received his BS in Sociology and MA in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Scott was an avid golfer, competing on his high school golf team and later became a member of the athletic hall of fame.  He worked for the Milwaukee County Parks Department for 22 years, teaching youth and adult golf lessons throughout the metro area.  He played softball into his 40’s for various bar teams in Greenfield and Greendale.  Scott avidly cheered on his beloved Packers, Bucks, Brewers and Badgers.  He relished being a Packer season ticket holder and was proud to have had those tickets passed down to him by his father.  He also held season tickets for the Bucks and Brewers and enjoyed gamedays throughout his life with friends and family.

Another passion in life was music.  Scott was a proud member of the Lake Band, which performed throughout Wisconsin, and he taught private trumpet and trombone lessons for 20 years.  He could often be found listening and singing to records, 8-tracks, cassettes, CDs and satellite radio, especially in the car.  His musical interests were broad, and he found immense joy attending symphony concerts, musical productions and other fine arts performances.

Scott was also a champion of Catholic education.  He began his teaching career at St. James School in Mukwonago, where he started the music program.  He later taught at St. Eugene’s School in Fox Point. Scott wore many hats during his teaching tenure and taught social studies, language arts, physical education and music. He also served as a coach and athletic director.  After ten years of teaching, he transitioned to administration, acting as the principal of Scared Heart of Jesus School and then St. John Vianney School for another nine years.  Scott was later called to serve a higher leadership position, becoming the Assistant Superintendent/Director of Elementary Education for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee where he completed 40 years working in Catholic education.

Scott lived by the motto, service above self.  He was a proud member of the Whitnall Park Rotary Club, holding the title of president for two years.  He was an avid volunteer for many other organizations throughout his life, including the Eleemosynarians, a charity group for St. Francis Hospital, and member of St. Veronica St. Vincent de Paul.  Scott proudly served as a board member for his alma mater Thomas Moore High School (renamed) for a number of years.  He especially enjoyed participating in the annual golf outing.   As an active member of St. Veronica’s Parish, he served on the parish council, Christian Formation Committee, Religious Education Committee and was a member of the festive brass ensemble.

One of his greatest joys was coaching, cheering for and supporting his children and grandchildren in all their activities.  He was a constant staple at gyms, fields, hockey rinks, concert halls and theaters.

Scott is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathy, his children Michelle (Tim) Heckmann, Stephen (Heather) Weyda; his grandchildren, Ben, Emily, Joseph and Lillia Heckmann; Madelyn, Grace, Sam and Elise Weyda, and sister, Susan (James) Thorsen.  Also survived by a niece, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends.

Memorial Mass will be held at ST. VERONICA CONGREGATION, 4001 S. Whitnall Ave, Milwaukee, WI on Monday, January 12th 2026 at 11am, with the visitation beginning at 9am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society  at St. Veronica Congregation, or to the Whitnall Park Rotary Club-Scholarship Fund (@WhitnallParkRotary on Venmo).

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital and the Heart Failure Therapies Clinic for the care Scott received over the past few years.

Scott and Kathy were indeed a shining example of the sacrament of marriage. When we got married at St Veronica in 1988, they were the couple we met with for marriage prep. We learned a lot from them then and though we have lost touch over the years, we remember those meetings and Scott and Kathy very fondly. Our condolences to the entire Weyda family.

Scott was the very definition of Christ-like service. His role in the Archdiocesan Office for Schools had a powerfully positive effect on many. I will always be grateful for the role model that he provided for me in my role as an administrator. Scott was truly a special person who lived his faith in abundance.

Scott was a superb principal at St. John Vianney in Brookfield where I served with him and Fr. Tom Hickey in the 1980s. But mostly I remember his fun-loving spirit and his great sense of humor. His family should be soo… proud.

As a teacher “Mr. Weyda” was a stand-out, someone who I will never forget, even after 57 years when I was a 7th grader at St. Eugene’s School. He made social studies come alive, not simply coveying a lesson, but making the students become the lesson. My sympathy to the family at this time. He was indeed a treasure.
