Sophie Wentz

Born to Eternal Life August 9, 2025, age 94 years. Beloved wife of the late Wayne for over 40 years.  Loving mother of Joe (Gail) Wentz and Mary Ann (Mike) Budish.  Proud grandmother of Lindsey, Ethan, and Zach Wentz.  Dear sister-in-law of Judy (the late Larry) Kaisler.  Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Sophie stayed at home when her children were young.  She was proud of her Italian heritage and enjoyed cooking family recipes handed down to her for her family. She was also an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed reading – especially mystery novels – her favorite being Agatha Christie.

Once the kids were older, Sophie entered the workforce – working at Chapmans in customer service and gift wrapping for 15 years then getting a job at TriCity bank after Chapmans closed where she worked for another almost 20 years before retiring in her late 60’s.

After Wayne passed away in 1996, Sophie continued to work for a few years.  After she retired, she began volunteering at St. Mary’s in the office.  She also joined St. Mary’s Widow and Widowers group – where she made many new friends and enjoyed the outings the group went on.

At the end of the day, there were two things most important in Sophie’s life – family and chocolate, especially Quality Candy turtles and cherry cordials. Her devotion to her family was second to none.

Sophie’s family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Angels Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc not only for the exceptional care they provided Sophie in the last months of her life, but also the kindness and compassion shown to the family.

If desired, memorials to Angels Grace Hospice, N74W35908 Servants’ Way, Oconomowoc, WI 53066, are appreciated.

Family and friends will gather at St. Mary Visitation Catholic Parish, 1260 Church Street in Elm Grove on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 10:30 AM until the time of the Memorial Mass at 11:30 AM.  Inurnment at the Church cemetery will follow the Mass.

I didn’t know Sophie, but I am a friend of Mary Ann. Sophie worked with my Aunt Florence Wilson at Chapman’s many years ago. Such a small world. My Condolences to Mary Ann.

I’m so sorry to hear of Sophie’s passing. I was a neighbor and only met her a couple times but I know she will be greatly missed. I would often see her and Ann Wagner visiting at the mailboxes.
