Sharon Buckna

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sharon Buckna (Ruelle). Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Emery J. Ruelle, mother, Edith Ruelle (Perry), sister, Dorothy Raffaelli (Ruelle) and brother-in-law, Joseph Raffaelli.

Sharon is survived by her children, Michael Buckna (Susan) and Deborah Perez. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Mackenzie Meert (Josh), Kylie Garot (Alex) and Nikolai Perez (Meghan), and great granddaughter, Emerson Meert.

Sharon is also survived by her brothers Emery Ruelle, Fred Ruelle (Lynn) and Robert Ruelle (Lisa), and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Sharon, born and raised in Hancock, Michigan, had many fond memories of growing up in Copper Country. Her mother was a wonderful Homemaker, and her father was a Driver for a local meat packaging company and a volunteer fire fighter. Sharon inherited her mother’s cooking skills, mastering the art of the Pasty, and her sense of humor from her father. Sharon enjoyed summer weekends at “Poppa” Veeser’s cottage along the northern shores of Lake Superior. She attended Catholic grade school, where she was almost kicked out for her sassy attitude (she giggled about that). She graduated from Hancock High School. The front door of her family home was 50 feet from the high school, and yet Sharon managed to be late for school on many occasions. It did not go unnoticed by school officials and her tardiness was often noted during morning announcements (she giggled about that, too). Sharon loved running through the streets of her hometown with her siblings, cousins, and friends, but she cherished her quiet nights at home with her mother.

Sharon moved to Greendale, Wisconsin with her family in 1969, where she raised two children. She spent much of her time in the kitchen, and we loved her for it. Her cooking was amazing. She had a love for bowling, summer camping trips, family walks into the Village for Boy Blue ice cream after dinner, and watching her children play sports. She was a Boy Scout Den Mother and a Softball Coach for many seasons.

Sharon loved being a grandmother. She proudly traveled around the state to watch her grandchildren in sporting and dance events. Grandma’s Sunday morning breakfasts, holiday dinners, and Pasties have been missed.

Sharon has been a feisty fighter, battling Alzheimer’s disease for many years. We would like to thank the staff of East Troy Manor for taking great care of her over the past few years. Your kindness and caring really perked our mother up during the final chapter of her life. We know that she felt loved by the staff.

A visitation will be held Thursday, October 23, from 11am until 12:45pm at St. Mary Catholic Faith Community (9520 W. Forest Home Avenue Hales Corners).  The Mass of Christian burial will start promptly at 1pm.

Sharon will be laid to rest with her parents in Hancock, Michigan. She was happy to know she was going home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Thinking of you and your family during this fragile moment of time. She is free and off being sassy somewhere!
