Richard Edwin Lueneburg
Richard Edwin Lueneburg, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, was called home to heaven on April 4, 2025. He was born in South Milwaukee, WI, on August 17, 1927, the son of Walter and Amanda (Stuessi) Lueneburg.
Richard became a child of God through Holy Baptism on September 11, 1927; and he was confirmed in the Christian faith on April 27, 1941.
Richard (Dick) married Aurora (Zora) Moravec on October 6, 1956, and they were devoted to the Lord and each other for more than sixty-three years. They were blessed with two sons, Kurt (Susan nee Roland) and Joel (Joan nee Dietrich). As the family grew, they were blessed with five grandchildren: Angela (Andrew) Parrish, Justin Lueneburg, Allyson (Joe) Sellwood, Ellen (John) Raasch, and Elise (Grant) Zwiefelhofer. They were also blessed with ten great-grandchildren: Annabelle, Tessa and Roman Parrish; John, Jr., Roland, Josephine, and Mae Raasch; and Whitford, Aurora, and Evelyn Sellwood.
In his youth Richard attended Zion Lutheran School and South Milwaukee High School for which he participated in the state cross country meet his senior year.
Richard was a World War II Navy veteran. Upon his honorable discharge, he began a successful career in the United States Post Office in South Milwaukee where he served as a window clerk and supervisor until retiring in 1989. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and sang tenor in the choir for many years which was directed by his beloved wife.
Dick was an avid polka fan and enjoyed attending polka events with his friends. For a few years he played Bavarian curling (Stockscheissen). He liked to watch television and often told his loved ones of shows that they could watch. He cherished his family, friends, and neighbors and liked hosting them for festivities at his house where he was known to some as the “Mayor of the 500 block of Park Avenue.” He especially enjoyed the Christmas getaways with his family.
Most of all, he treasured staying close to Jesus through daily Bible and devotional readings and visits from his pastors. He was well known for sharing his “TNT” reference (Romans Ten, Nine and Ten) and asking everyone he met if they knew the Lord as their Savior.
In addition to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dick is survived by his sister Joan Radke, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister Arlene Bernthal and her husband Martin; brothers-in-law: John (Ludmilla) Moravec, Rudolph (Ann) Moravec, Milan (Anne) Moravec, and Joseph (Lorna) Moravec; sisters-in-law: Darina (Fritz) Rasmussen, Emelia (Steve) Osicka, and Ann (Clayton) LaPerriere; other relatives and friends.
Richard’s Christian funeral will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 3600 S Chicago Avenue, South Milwaukee, WI, at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Forest Hill Memorial Park following the service. God comfort you with the gift of the heavenly home Dad now enjoys and the certainty that because of Jesus, we will have a wonderful family reunion.
I have many fond memories of Dick and his family. Their kindness, love and caring for others was special. Their love for Jesus influenced my heart to begin to learn of Jesus; and then to belief in faith in Christ as my Savior.. One of my favorite verses is Romans 10:9-10 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. God bless you with His comfort and peace with wonderful memories of cousin Dick.. God surround you all with His love, comfort and peace. Love Kathy and Dennis Dugan
