Richard “Dick” Powers

Aug 15, 1945 – Aug 31, 2026

Richard (Dick) Powers passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 31st, 2026, at the age of 81. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen (nee Modlinski). Loving dad to Julie (Erich) Acker, Stacy, and Jeffrey (Ashley). Proud Grandpa to Pippa and Remy. Dear brother of Jeannie Cooper. Dear Brother-in-law of Linda (John) Ludwig and Gregory (Julie) Modlinski. Preceded in death by his parents, Neil & Gladys Powers, parents-in-law Robert & Marcella Modlinski, and siblings, David, Karen, Nyla & Barbara. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Dick was born in Milwaukee August 15, 1945. He graduated from Pulaski High School and then served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968. In February of 1969, Dick married his high school sweetheart, Kathie. Dick was a talented engineer at Acro Automation. He loved talking about his work and could spend hours telling stories about the machines he had designed and the things they were built to create. Dick enjoyed woodworking, building birdhouses, card games, fishing, hunting, his Corvette and his faithful dog, Captain, who was a particularly special companion. It was rare to find him without a Dr. Pepper in his hand.

His greatest passion was the life he shared with Kathie, his family and friends in the home they shared in Waukesha. His stories, laughter, music, sense of humor, and the memories he created with his family and friends will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

The family would like to thank the staff at Angels Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc for the wonderful care and support in Dick’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to HAWS (Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha).

I only met your dad once, when he let us borrow his rototiller when we were landscaping our new house. As I remember, he was a kind man. I do remember how much you loved him Stacy and I know he felt the same about you.
I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Dick has been our neighbor for 31 years. He was always willing to help me out any time John was out of town. He was the Grandpa that my kids didn’t have. He always went out of his way to give them candy for our trips. He would find them little jobs to do for him for a little cash. One year my daughter Lyndsey wanted to grow some vegetables and he helped her plant them in his garden, showed her how to weed and take care of them. Dick also helped my son Logan and one of his friends change the brake pads in our driveway. Dick was just an all around wonderful person! He will be truly missed.

I know how important he was to my daughter and family who lived next door to him. They loved him dearly. He was always very kind to me.

I’ve known Dick a long time. His wife, Kathie was like a sister to me back in the 70’s. He put up with us bowling together, playing sheepshead once. month. Dick showed his tru colors after Kathie was diagnosed with cancer. He showed so much love and devotion to her, it showed what a truly “good” man he was and I will always love him for that. Hopefully they are once again together.. our deepest condolences to Stacey, Jeff and Julie who I’ve known since you were young children.
