Moises “Mike” Nazario

Moises “Mike” Nazario was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, and generous friend whose life was defined by service—to his country, his profession, his community, and most of all, his family. Born in Manila, Philippines, Mike carried his heritage with pride and lived a life rooted in commitment, compassion, and quiet strength.

Mike was the beloved husband of Mary Jean (née Kennedy) and a dedicated father to John (Sue), Rebecca (Rob) Schultz, Robert (Cheryl), and Cynthia. He found great joy in being “Grandpa” to Amanda (Sean) Runge, Maximillian (Brooke) Schultz, Ashley (Aaron) Schley, Samuel Schultz, Liam O’Neill, Vincent, Nikolas Willacker‑Nazario (fiancée Emma), Jacob, and Alexandria, and was a proud great‑grandfather to Averie Runge, Sullivan Runge, and Remy Schultz. His love for his family was constant and unwavering, and he cherished time spent together across generations. He is further survived by many extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, humor, and steady presence.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Nazario and Sonia Shipman, and his parents‑in‑law, Walter and Sylvia Kennedy.

A man of deep dedication, Mike served 20 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Hospital Corpsman and Medical Technologist. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967 and was honored with a Purple Heart—an emblem of his bravery and sacrifice. His military service was a source of great pride, reflecting his courage and sense of duty.

Education and service continued to shape Mike’s life beyond the military. After attending university in the Philippines, he graduated from Southern Illinois University and completed his master’s program at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. He retired as a Medical Technologist from Milwaukee County Hospital and later continued his career at St. Francis Hospital, where his professionalism and care left a lasting impact.

Mike also gave generously of his time to the arts, volunteering for 20 years at the Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. This long‑standing commitment reflected his love of community and his willingness to support others behind the scenes.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 8500 W. Cold Spring Road, Greenfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow promptly at 11:30 a.m., with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a veteran’s organization of your choice in Mike’s honor, reflecting his lifelong dedication to those who serve.

Mike will be remembered for his strength, humility, generosity, and devotion to family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the love he leaves behind.

Hello to Moises / Mike’s Family.
My name is Tony Turcotte of Comfort Keepers. I have been a caregiver with Mike for the last 2 years. He has left a deep imprint on my life. During the time I got to know Mike, I became familiar with Jeannie and some of the members of the family, who have all been very helpful when we needed it. I looked at this as a great honor and privilege to serve Mike’s needs and establish a relationship that goes far beyond caregiver.
Like so many others, I was shocked to learn of his death, and I know that all of you are carrying a huge burden of grief. However, in his Catholic mindset we understand there is hope for eternal life. And Mike was well positioned for that reward.
I can only offer my prayers and concern from my wife Sue and myself. Please know that Mike / Moises was a very important individual recently in my life, whom it is very difficult to say farewell.
May Eternal rest Grant unto him, Oh Lord, And let Perpetual Shining light shine upon him. May the soul of Moses Nazario and all the souls of the faithful Departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
Jeanie, I know you have a very strong network of support among your Family and that Mike was trying to prepare you on a frequent basis for his passing. However, you also share the hope in his eternal life.
I desire to be there for his memorial Mass, but if I can’t, please know that I am with you in prayer and support. Please feel free to contact me if you so desire.
    -Peace and Blessings – Tony

The tribute you shared reflects a lot of heartfelt moments. Was there a particular story that stood out during the service?

    Dear Jeanie,
My very best cousin who gave my mother the support that she needed. I cannot thank him enough for he was there when my mother needed it most. He will always be in our prayers. May our Lord Jesus Christ continue to give you and your family all the comfort knowing that Mike is resting in peace

To the Nazario family: Mike was my boss at MCMC Blood Bank. I worked there for only a short time but Mike was the kindest boss I ever had in my entire working life by far…I am retired now so that was many years of bosses to compare to! I am so very sorry that you are feeling this huge chasm of aching loss and I am praying for your broken hearts. But I have to share that I have a picture in my mind of Mike and Jesus grinning ear to ear at each other. To quote The Shack, I know that Jesus is especially fond of Mike.

We have donated to Veterans Helping Veterans, a local group run by a veteran that feeds and clothes local homeless veterans, in Mike’s memory.
