Mark Steven Bergemann
Mark Steven Bergemann, age 69, entered his heavenly home through victory in his Savior Jesus on May 12, 2025. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 11, 1956. Although his earthly death was through a sudden and unexpected cardiac event, his almighty and all-knowing God prepared him through grace by faith for eternal life in heaven.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents Norman W. and Ruth K. Bergemann; parents-in-law Robert L. and Leona L. Frey; stepmother-in-law Doris Frey; and his brother Baby Boy Bergemann.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Lesley (nee Frey); children Scott (Amanda) Bergemann, Jason (Stephanie) Bergemann, and Lisa (Michael) Prado; brother David (Leah) Bergemann; sister-in-law Susan Bergemann; grandchildren Landon, Emma, Thaddeus, Theodore, and Thalia Bergemann and Lily Prado; nephew Kyle (Megan Parker) Bergemann; niece Missy (Tim) Brown; great-niece Kira Brown; stepmother Gretchen Powell-Bergemann along with other family and friends.
The memories of many family adventures will always be cherished. He could turn a walk in the park – or even the back yard – into an adventure. He was always able to offer some practical, sometimes fun engineering solutions for any issues the family encountered. His spreadsheets, diagrams and work flow charts will long be remembered. There were numerous Biblical insights offered through the years.
Mark had a long and interesting career as an electrical engineer. God provided opportunities for Mark to use his engineering skillset in service to God’s Kingdom through leadership and organization of the church’s evangelism and Gospel outreach programs for many years. More recently, God directed Mark’s heart and passion for Christian and Creation apologetics to service in leadership of the Lutheran Science Institute where he served as president and journal editor.
Although Mark was given many opportunities to work for his Savior, he always knew that it was not by that work, but only by God’s undeserved grace and power that he – or anyone — could have eternal life in heaven. All of Mark’s work in evangelism, outreach, and Christian apologetics was focused on removing barriers to the Gospel. Mark knew and believed that it was only the Gospel in God’s Word that was the power of God to create faith in the hearts of people. Mark’s sincerest hope was that all people would have that God-given faith.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at LIVING HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH (1337 South 100th Street, West Allis, Wisconsin 53214) on Saturday, May 24, 2025. Visitation will be at the church’s worship center from 10:00am to Noon with the Celebration of Life service at Noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Living Hope Lutheran Church or the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) would be appreciated.

My condolences and prayers are with Mark’s family. I have many memories of Mark having been in grade school through high school. It was wonderful to see him at the 50th WLHS reunion.
We are so sorry for your loss. Mark was a man of strong faith and his leadership and legacy will continue to inspire everyone he knew. He is now in the loving embrace of our Lord. Please accept our condolences.
Only today, May 18th, 2025, less than two hours ago, I found an article entitled, “The NIV 2011: Problems Caused by its Improper Use of Gender Neutral Language” and I immediately wanted to know more. I looked the author up, and found he has passed … six days ago! I am very sorry for the loss to the family. As the obituary says, “Mark Steven Bergemann … entered his heavenly home through victory in his Savior Jesus….” This is among our highest goals while here on this earth. I did not know Mark, but my life has already been positively changed because of him, and for that I am grateful.
I had the privilege of singing in the choir at Mark and Lesley’s wedding..I cherish the blessing of having known Mark. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
My deepest condolences and prayers are with Lesley and the rest of Mark’s family. I always enjoyed our chats when he came to the chiropractor’s office. He will be missed by all. Heaven has gained an awesome angel and his family now has a guardian angel looking over them.
My deepest sympathy for Mark’s family. He was a wonderful man filled with the spirit of God. I always looked forward to seeing him. He will be deeply missed.
