Marjorie Jean Shively

On June 6, 2024, Marge passed away at the age of 96 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Louis Shively.  She is the loving mother of R. Scott (Judi), Mark, Dale (Cathy), the late Larry (Colleen) and the late Barbara (Jeff) Schoeneck.  She was the grandmother of Kristin, David (Emily), Stephanie (Angelo), Laura (Ryne), Susie (Brian), Jessica (Paul), Michelle (Michael), Joel (Morgan), Rebecca, and Rachael and the proud great-grandmother of Kaedyn, Charlie, Daniel, Leopold, and Niko. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Marge was a devoted wife and mother.  With her husband’s career in the military, Marge had the unique opportunity to live and travel all over the world.  Most mothers would be overwhelmed caring for five children, but Marge had the added challenge of moving her family every few years not only from city to city, but sometimes from country to country.

As if being a wife and mother to five didn’t keep her busy enough, Marge occasionally made time for her hobbies of knitting, crocheting and sewing.  And when the opportunity presented itself, she and Donald would go square dancing while stationed in Germany.  They enjoyed sailing, cruises and annual trips to their condominium in Florida.  After retirement from the Army, Marge spent 37 years in West Allis and New Berlin, where she worked at Target, and volunteered at West Allis Memorial Hospital

She had a love for anything chocolate – and in her later years, the tell-tale remnants of a chocolate treat became her “lipstick” of choice.

Marge prized her family over any earthly possession. She was an extraordinary mother – always there for her children when they needed her the most – whether it was offering support, wisdom, or simply unconditional love. While Marge enjoyed being a mother, it was becoming a grandmother and eventually a great-grandmother that brought her joy that she couldn’t have ever imagined when she was younger.  You didn’t have to know her to be able to see the pure joy on her face when she was holding one of her grandchildren or great-grandchildren.

Marge will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.  She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

This is a beautiful tribute. You have captured her personality, her long and fruitful life but most of all her love of family. Bless her soul, she is truly at rest and with the people she has been missing for so many years. Love and condolences to you all.

Sincere sympathies on Marge’s passing. We spent several sailing years docked one slip away. Very fond memories. Wednesday lunches with Marge’s husband, Don at the Milwaukee Yacht Club before an afternoon sail, are great memories. We were privileged to be part of their lives so many years ago.

Marge was a friend for 55+ years. We had some great times with Don and Marge, our sons , Larry and Doug, close friends in school, bowling in a couples league, round robins, time spent together in Florida and then Marge and I ending up in the same apartment complex for several years. I will miss our daily phone calls and visits! She is at peace now with the Lord, Don, , Larry and Barbara., My thoughts and prayers are with the family!

I had the pleasure of Marge’s company while volunteering in the office at West Allis Memorial Hospital. She always came with a smile on her face and a chuckle in her voice. Such a super friend, mother and grandmother.. Blessed to have known her..
