Lucy Ann Yocum (nee Markert)
March 9, 1946 – September 3, 2025
Lucy Ann Yocum (née Markert), age 79, of Franklin, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 9, 1946, in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lucy was a beloved daughter of William and Lucy Markert. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1964 and went on to train and serve as an x-ray technician at Trinity Memorial Hospital.
On January 13, 1968, Lucy married Robert Yocum, Jr. Together, they built a warm and welcoming home, raising three sons—Christopher, Peter, and Daniel. Lucy stepped away from her career to dedicate herself fully to her family, later returning to work in the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District as a teacher’s aide, a role she held with care and compassion until her retirement in 2007.
Lucy had a deep love for gardening and a generous spirit that touched all who knew her. She devoted many joyful hours to volunteering at St. James Catholic Church, where she found a true sense of community. Whether she was decorating the sanctuary, crocheting shawls and blankets, or simply sharing time with friends, Lucy gave of herself freely and wholeheartedly.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Robert; her three sons, Christopher (Jennifer), Peter (Kristine), and Daniel (Laura), her five cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, three sisters Mary Meyer, Claire Shaefer, and Carol Makovsky, her sister-in-law Jean Newton, and many nieces and nephews. Her legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew her.
The family gives a special thank you to Julie Swanson, Lucy’s niece, for the care and compassion she gave over the years.
A visitation will be held at St. James Catholic Church (7219 South 27th Street, Franklin) on Wednesday, September 10th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Catholic funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery (3800 East College Ave, Cudahy) at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a charity of your choice in Lucy’s memory.
What a wonderful kind woman and Friend. She devoted her life to Bob, her kids, their wives and grandchildren. She was such an asset to her Church and her Students. Lu, You are an inspiration for all of us. Rest in the arms of Jesus.
I have great memories of chatting with Lu in the occasions that I would visit Bob at their house.
Keeping you in mind, Lu…
May the Angels lead you into Paradise, and may the Martyrs come to welcome you and take you to the Holy City, the new and eternal Jerusalem.. Rest in peace and God bless your family.
Thank you Lucy for the encouragement and friendship when we were xray students at Trinity Memorial Hospital.
Thank you for the wonderful care you gave Tim the first wo years of his life.
I couldn’t have asked for a better babysitter and friend.
Rest in peace Lucy
Lu was a ray of morning sunshine on a blooming garden fresh with dew. Her smile, her voice, her gentle eyes all spoke of God’s tenderness and her selflessness. Her love was only matched by Bob’s who was her guardian angel watching over her day and night, through thick and thin. As Lu’s presence in church gradually faded, those who worked with her on beautifying the church fondly reminisced her joyous gift of time and devotion to detail. May Lucy go with the angels to see her Lord face to face. Rest in Peace, dear Lu!
