Kapuanani “Kapu” Cummings

With heavy hearts but immense gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of Linda Kapuanani Cummings, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, auntie, and friend, who left us far too soon. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Born and raised in Hawaii, she carried the warmth and aloha spirit of the islands with her throughout her life. With a personality that could light up any room, Kapuanani was a force of nature — full of laughter, compassion, and unstoppable energy. Though she faced a difficult start in life, losing her mother at a young age and her father not too long after, with the support of her siblings she turned her pain into purpose and strength. Determined to carve her own path, Kapuanani joined the United States Air Force, where she not only served her country but discovered the power of resilience, camaraderie, and self-belief.

She later built her greatest legacy — her family. As a devoted mother of three, she raised her children with the same courage and warmth that defined her. She was the loudest cheerleader at every milestone, and the one who could always make you laugh — even in hard times. Her greatest joy in recent years came from becoming a grandmother; her grandson brought new light and laughter into her life.

Anyone who knew Kapuanani will remember her radiant personality, infectious humor, and her unmistakable singing voice — a little tone-deaf perhaps, but never lacking in confidence or joy. She sang loudly and loved deeply, never missing a chance to lift others up or make them feel seen.

Her presence was a gift, her laughter unforgettable, and her love everlasting. She is survived by her three children, her beloved grandson, her older sister and brother, nieces and a nephew, and countless friends. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always celebrated.

Kapuanani taught us all what it means to live fully — to face life’s hardships with grace, to lead with one’s heart, and to never be afraid to sing out loud, even off-key.

A celebration of life will be held at Heritage Funeral Home (9200 S. 27th St. Oak Creek) on Friday, October 17th starting at 7pm. Visitation will begin at 6pm until the time of service. Her ashes will return home to Hawaii, and Kapuanani will be laid to rest alongside her father at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in honor of her service to our country.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America in Kapuanani’s memory so her light and love may continue to make a difference in the lives of others.

I grew up on Lapa Street in Lanikai and Kapu was a childhood friend living just down the street. I have such fond memories of her. She was always so much fun to be around and she was always smiling! May she rest in eternal paradise.
