Joyce Nann Hastings (nee Smith)

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister Joyce Nann Hastings (Smith) on August 21 ^st 2026 at Harbor Cove memory care in Port Washington, Wisconsin.

Joyce was born September 19^th, 1942, at St. Josephs Hospital in Milwaukee. Joyce was the daughter of Ray Rex Smith Sr. and Jessie Smith (nee Quick). She was a 1960 graduate of Barron Area High School where she was prom queen. Shortly after high school she moved to Milwaukee and worked at Allen Bradley for several years. She later worked at Johnson’s Wax in the city of Racine, where she was employed for over 30 years.

Joyce was united in marriage to Robert Snow. They eventually settled in the Racine County area and had three sons. Daniel (Dan), Michael (Mike) and Jason. Joyce and Robert separated, and Joyce later married Francis “Skip” Hastings on May 22nd, 1976. Joining their family was stepdaughter Kris and stepson Gary. They eventually moved to Raymond, Wi, where they lived for over 30 years.

Joyce was very proud of her years working for Johnson’s Wax, where she spent most of her time working on the “OFF” line. She worked most of her career on third shift as it gave her the best opportunity to spend time with family and attend her sons numerous sporting events. Through football, basketball and baseball, Joyce never missed any of her son’s games. Joyce retired from Johnson’s Wax on September 10^th, 2004 after 30 years of service.

Joyces greatest joy in life was family and especially her grandchildren. Weekends at the Hastings house typically found bedding and pillows spread around the living room floor. Grandchildren took turns picking their favorite movies while enjoying all the snacks they could handle. The laughter and giggles of little girls filled the air, and the unconditional love of Grandma Joyce was felt by all.

Joyce’s favorite place in the world was Sucker Lake, the family home of her parents. Most vacations and holidays were spent there where the home was always filled with grandparents, aunts, uncles, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Joyce found great joy in her family and close relationships with her parents and sisters; Pam, Robin and Liz and her brother Ray “Pete”.

Joyce loved to read. In her spare time, you would find her at the kitchen table reading a paperback romance novel. She was a skilled gardener and took great pride in her numerous flower beds. One of Joyce’s exceptional talents was creating silk flower arrangements. Through the years she created several arrangements for weddings and other events.

Joyce will be remembered for her unconditional love, her kindness and gentle nature. Her love for family was evident in all she did. Joyce put others first in all matters. She willingly sacrificed so her family would never be in need of anything. She will be greatly missed and forever loved and cherished.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Dan Snow of Milwaukee, Mike (Tina) Snow of Cedar Grove, Jason of Milwaukee, Kris Anderson of Tennessee, and Gary Hastings of Mount Horeb. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Ryannon (Matt), Amanda, Jacqueline (Beau), Summer, Ashlin (Cody), Kady, Jake (Chassidy) and Kaylen. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Brailyn, Ryder, Hattie, and Lainey. She is also survived by her sisters, Pam (Cap) Buettner, Robin Smith and Liz (Mike) Brodnicki.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis “Skip” Hastings, her parents, Ray Rex Smith Sr. and Jessie Smith and her brother Ray Rex “Pete” Smith.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff in the memory care unit at Harbor Campus in Port Washington. During her stay Joyce received loving care and attention. She was treated with dignity and touched the lives of many during her stay. We would also like to thank her hospice care staff for the comfort and support they provided through these past several years.
