Henry D. Smith, of Union Grove, passed away peacefully on February 29th, 2024, at the age of 73. A lifelong resident of the Southern Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled, Henry’s life, though marked by challenges, was rich with love and cherished connections.

Known for his fondness for life’s simple pleasures, Henry loved snacks, with Cheetos and M&M’s holding a special place in his heart. His playful teasing, particularly directed at the caring staff of the center, will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A proud member of the Oneida Nation, his spirit remained deeply connected to the heritage of his people.

Henry’s spirit is now carried by his surviving brothers, William Smith, Donald (Marilyn) Smith, and Edgar Smith, along with nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Smith (nee: Skenandore), and siblings Gerald Smith, Shirley Ann Smith, Alice Cornejo, Gladys Smith, and Richard Smith.

Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Henry’s life at the visitation on Saturday, March 9th, 2024, from 1pm to 3pm at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME (3801 S. Howell Ave, Milwaukee).  The Funeral Service, beginning at 3pm, will be a heartfelt gathering to share memories and pay tribute to a life well-lived.

The family extends profound gratitude to the dedicated staff and healthcare team at the Southern Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled, who truly became an extended family to Henry. Their unwavering love and affection provided him comfort and joy throughout his lifetime. Family also wishes to thank the staff of Zilber Family Hospice, who further surrounded him with compassionate care in his final days.

May his soul find eternal peace.
