Gerald “Jerry” Allen Sutton, age 69, peacefully passed away on January 6, 2024. He was a devoted husband, loving dad, cherished grandpa, beloved uncle, and a dear brother. Jerry was born on January 9, 1954 in Phillips, WI to Donald and Ruth Sutton. Jerry graduated from Phillips High School in 1972. After graduation Jerry moved to the Milwaukee area where he began to learn the trades working for his Uncle Bob. This experience eventually led to Jerry’s relationship with Delta T Construction where he worked for 31 years until retirement in 2012.

Jerry met the love of his life – Diane Koenig – through a mutual friend and they were married in November 1974 and moved into their first fixer upper in West Allis soon after.  This is where they started to grow their family and then moved to New Berlin.

A skilled carpenter by trade, Jerry’s hands crafted not only intricate pieces and large buildings but also lasting memories for those around him. This included his hunting cabin on the land where he spent many hours exploring as a child and young man. In his years after retirement he took up his late father’s skill of logging. His passion for hunting and fishing was only surpassed by his unwavering faith, which shaped his character and influenced everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Jerry’s infectious smile and warm spirit touched the hearts of many. Whether he was ready with a teasing remark or a comforting hug, his presence brought joy and comfort to those in his circle. He was a man who embraced life’s adventures and faced challenges with resilience and grace.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father Donald Sutton, grandparents Harry and Anna Chase and Ruby and Rodney Sutton, infant brother David Sutton, nephew Noah Kovarik and parents-in-law James and Doris Koenig.

Jerry is survived by his wife Diane. Children Michelle (Jason) Miklosh, Jonah (Frannie) Sutton and Dan Sutton. Grandchildren Isaiah, Noah, Aubrey, Landon and Ashton.  Mother Ruth Sutton.  Siblings Jeanie (Jim) Heizler, Roger (Anne) Sutton, Donna (Tom) Kovarik, Jesse (Colleen) Sutton, Ginger (Mark) Amelunk, Scott (Monique) Sutton.  Brothers-in-law Jim Koenig and Alan Koenig.  Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews as well as many other relatives and friends. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to call him family and friend.

A service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on January 20, 2024 at 11am. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9am at the Blessed Savior Lutheran Church in New Berlin, WI.  Arrangements are being handled by the Heritage Funeral Home in New Berlin, WI.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Milwaukee Rescue Mission or the Blessed Savior Lutheran Church.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to medical team at Froedtert Center for Advanced Care for the remarkable care and compassion they provided.

May Jerry rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished moments.

Besides being a great person to work with at ESI, Jerry taught me many things in the building trades. He would call me first thing in the morning to tell me what I messed up and asked how I would fix it before later to tell me he already fixed it and this is the way you should have done it. I learned a lot from those early years working with Jerry and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Diane and rest of his family. Rest in Peace Master Builder.

Diane and family: Ted and I were truly saddened when we heard about Jerry. We wish we could be at the service.
Jerry helped us with major projects around our home. His skills have stood the test of time here in Muskego.
We are glad he got to spend a number of years in retirement ( but we know Jerry, he truly never retired and continued to help people). Rest in peace Jerry. Diane, our thoughts and prayers are being sent to you in this difficult time.

I didn’t know Jerry well, but I know his daughter, Michelle, and judging by how amazing she is I know that Jerry and Diane are too. I’m so sorry for your loss everyone. I’m here if you need anything.
