Gary Milton Grundy
January 6, 1941 – August 18, 2026
Of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away on August 18, 2026 at the age of 85. He was a man who filled every room with laughter and every life he touched with stories worth hearing.
Born on January 6, 1941, in Minocqua, Wisconsin, Gary grew up with a restless curiosity about the world that never left him. After high school, he followed that curiosity into the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country in Vietnam. He carried that same sense of duty home and devoted more than two decades to the Milwaukee Police Department, retiring with distinction as a Detective.
Retirement did little to slow him down. Gary poured his energy and determination into Stallion Leather, a manufacturing business he built and operated for many years. But as much as he worked, Gary knew there was a great big world beyond work, and he intended to see as much of it as he could.
He panned for gold in the Yukon with his brother, Ron. He walked the Oregon Trail with his parents and Jackie. He traveled across Africa. He took his children and son-in-law through Europe, creating memories in places most people only read about. Closer to home, some of his happiest times were spent fishing, and hunting, and camping with his children and friends.
Gary didn’t simply have adventures, he collected them, remembered them, and turned them into stories. He had a storyteller’s gift and an adventurer’s heart, and he shared both generously.
People loved his smile. They loved his unmistakable laugh. And when Gary started telling a story, people gathered close, because somehow, he could make you feel as though you had been there with him. Listening to Gary Grundy made you feel like you had lived a little more yourself.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Ricky, whose memory Gary carried with him every day.
Above all, Gary loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jacqueline; his children, Penny Czebotar, Jeff Grundy (Patty), and Don Grundy (Lillian); his stepchildren, Jean Grinnell (Jay), Elizabeth Moles (Bill), Arlene Dunstan, and Joe Dunstan (Nicole); his grandchildren, Gabrielle Jones (Corey), Audrey, Kaz, Shannon, Josh, Tracy Jean, Suzanne, Molly, Ben, Zach, Sam, DJ, and Selena; his great-grandson, Alexander; many other beloved great-grandchildren; and his former spouse, Carol Grundy. Gary is further survived by his sister Peggy Benn, his brother Ron Grundy, other relatives, friends, and Fuzzy the cat and Bentlie his loyal fur friends.
Though he will be deeply missed, the stories he told and the adventures he lived will remain with his family and friends forever.
