Johnson,Ernest

The family of Ernest Johnson announces with great sadness but also a great sense of peace, the passing of a wonderful man. Preceded in death by spouses Mary Lou and Mary. Survived by his sister Gloria Wilger. Devoted father to Christine Kelley (Jerry Schmidt), Karen (Gary) Wille, Linda (Roger) Gersonde, the late Jill Johnson, Judith (Ward) Fuller and Donna (Dennis) Grabski. Legendary “Opa” to 9 grandchildren, as well as 5 great grandchildren.

Ern was a proud WWII veteran. When he returned from service, he began a 35 year career at Schlitz Brewery. He was the last man standing when they closed their doors in Milwaukee for the final time. He and his wife, Mary, were able to pursue traveling all corners of the globe.

Ern set a high moral standard for all of the generations that followed. He loved nature and organic gardening before it was cool.

What did he say about himself at the end?

“I was a good man.”

We all agree…

A memorial service to be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Franklin, Wisconsin on Thursday, February 9th at 4:30 PM.
