Elsie M. Tyrrell
(née Chrudimsky) Age 97, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Born on September 24, 1928, on a farm in Harrison Township near Antigo, Wisconsin, Elsie was the beloved daughter of James and Anna (née Servi) Chrudimsky. She grew up as the youngest of eight children, attending a one room schoolhouse and enjoying a simple but fulfilling childhood without electricity or running water. After the death of her father when she was just 11, the family moved to Antigo, and Elsie later began her working life in a shoe factory in north central Wisconsin.
On August 20, 1949, Elsie married the love of her life, Ted Tyrrell. Together they built a home first in Greenfield and later in Franklin, where they raised their four sons. Ted preceded her in death after more than 50 years of marriage. Elsie was a devoted mother to her youngest son, John, and to her late sons Ted, Tom, and Jim. She was a caring mother in law to Susan wife of John; Mary, wife of Tom; and Roberta Schwartz, former wife of Jim. Elsie was a treasured grandmother to Tamara (Chris) Mell, Christopher (Jessica Orlofske), Sarah (fiancé Adam Sobieralski), Margaret, and Robert Tyrrell, and blessed great grandmother to Isabella Mell. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Elsie lived a life marked by energy, positivity, and joy. She loved singing and dancing and being outdoors–taking long walks and paddle boating. Some of her happiest moments were spent camping with her family and vacationing at the cabin up north. Her love of travel carried her across the United States and Europe, yet she found equal joy tending her flower gardens, playing Sheepshead, and participating in the Young at Heart senior group.
Service to others was not just something Elsie valued, it was the center of her life. She gave her time and energy as a devoted union steward in several workplaces, and she was a faithful, long standing member of St. Mary’s Catholic Faith Community and the Barbed Wire Post of the American Ex Prisoners of War. She found great joy in lifting her voice with the church choir and in offering prayers on behalf of the POW community.
Elsie carried herself with a spirit that never dimmed. Even in the face of hardship, she met life with warmth, optimism, and grace. Her unwavering faith sustained her through every trial, and she bore her burdens without complaint, embodying a quiet strength that inspired all who knew her.
Due to construction at Elsie’s home parish, Visitation will be held at St. Alphonsus Parish, 6060 W. Loomis Road-Greendale (where Elsie was a member in the 1950s and 1960s) on Monday, June22 2026, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM with Fr. Kevin Tanel, officiating. Interment services will take place at
