Elizabeth (Betty) Spridco was born on March 5, 1932 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Fred J. Van Zeeland and Verna E. (Hills) Van Zeeland. She was a graduate of Pius XI High School and attended Wisconsin State Teachers College – Milwaukee. Betty was united in marriage to Jack P. Spridco on June 6, 1953 in West Allis, Wisconsin. Betty and Jack, an aerospace engineer, were happily married for 49 yrs. when Jack passed away on April 24, 2002.
Elizabeth (Betty) worked as a secretary for the School District of New Berlin for fourteen (14) years, primarily at New Berlin West High School. She served in various capacities in the library, guidance, attendance and Principal’s offices. Prior to this, she was a secretary for the religious education program at Holy Apostles Church in New Berlin for four years.
Throughout Elizabeth’s life, she was affectionately called “Aunt Betty” by everyone, including her many nieces and nephews and her children’s high school friends. She graciously opened her home to anyone needing a place to stay for weeks, months, or even years; all while working full time, raising three children and caring for a husband who battled heart disease. Betty exuded boundless energy and love for others every single day of her life.
Betty and Jack retired early, allowing them time to travel, fish, winter in Florida and attend their grandchildren’s activities. After Jack’s passing, Betty found socialization and friendship at the New Berlin Senior Center. Her favorite activities included choir, exercise class, birthday club and dining out. Betty continued living in the family home until her death. Her later years were filled with feeding and watching birds and deer in her back yard and spending time with family and friends.
Elizabeth (Betty) is survived by her children, Dale Spridco (Roberta Kamps) of DeForest, WI; Lynn Forseth (Michael Forseth) of Fort Atkinson, WI and Diane Laux (Scott Laux) of Wind Lake, WI.
