Dorothy Mae
Sievert

Sievert, Dorothy M.

(Nee Lappen) Age 73 years, passed away of cancer Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Angels Grace Hospice.

Dorothy is survived by Dale, her loving husband of 51 years, daughter Cheryl, son Christopher and grandchildren Christine, Olivia, and Braxton. She was preceded in death by parents Peter and Kathryn Lappen and sister Carol Borik.

Dorothy worked in banking from 1961 until 2004, beginning in Manitowoc, where she was born, then Milwaukee, Madison, Stevens Point, and Waukesha. She earned her Associates Degree in computer programming at Waukesha County Technical Institute in 1982.

Someone said, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the places and moments that take our breath away.” Dorothy saw many such places and had many such moments, visiting 50 states, 45 national parks, and 23 countries on four continents. Her favorite was Egypt, especially climbing inside the Cheops Pyramid to the burial chamber and entering King Tut’s tomb. Other loved places include Machu Picchu in Peru, Morocco, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal and Norway.

Lots of her breaths were “taken away” in Dale’s “paradise” garden, which she “helped” by placing ceramic animals everywhere.

And she and Dale gained much joy and many friends listening and dancing to rock music. In summer they attended festivals, State Fair, and Summerfest three or more times a week. In winter they went to bars with bands nearly every weekend. It kept them young.

She was funny, wore flashy outfits, loved being mistaken for Elizabeth Taylor–and brought joy to all.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 9:30 AM until a noon mass at St. Mary’s Catholic church, 225 S. Hartwell, Waukesha.
