Donald “Don” F. Couillard found peace on January 14, 2026, at the age of 71.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Jane and Donald A. Couillard, and his loving niece, Jenni Luick.

Don is survived by his cherished cat, “Dude,” and his devoted siblings: Karen (the late Duane) Luick, Patty (Jim) Risch, Gary (Audrey) Couillard, and Beth Couillard. He is further survived by his loving nieces and nephews: Kim (Nathan) Leinweber, Stacey (Jody) Kugler, Nicole (Henry) Breuer, Amy (Michael) Chaney, Shawn (Julie) Couillard, Adam (Erin) Couillard, Brandon Riemer, and Josh (Heather) Riemer. He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews, numerous friends, and other relatives.

Don had a deep love for boating and being on the water.  He proudly owned a boat—also named “Dude,” just like his beloved cat. Some of his favorite moments were spent on the water or enjoying Friday fish frys with his sisters. He loved animals deeply and was fortunate to turn that passion into a meaningful career, working with K9s in customs and during his time serving in the Army.

Above all else, Don treasured time with his family.  His mother’s house was always filled with family and animals, creating countless memories that will be forever cherished. Don was always there for everyone, offering support and a steady presence whenever it was needed.  He will be immensely missed.

Don and his family were immensely proud of his sobriety. He remained alcohol-free for over 20 years—a journey that was not easy, but one that stood as a testament to his strength and determination.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Julie Jensen and the staff and ICU at the VA for their compassionate care and support.

Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, February 6th, 2026 from 10-12pm with a Service to begin at 12pm at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME (16880 W. National Ave, New Berlin).  Burial and military honors to follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, in honor of Don’s service and the compassionate care he received, or to the Wisconsin Humane Society, reflecting his lifelong love of animals.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
