Dolores, or Grammy as she liked to be called, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 13th at the age of 98. She chose to live at The Protestant Home 31 years ago after working at Columbia Hospital, now Eastcastle and Ascension St. Marys respectively.  Her one consistent activity at her apartment was the church service at 2 pm on Sunday.  She was a devoted Christian who put her faith in Jesus and a glorious afterlife.

Dolores loved her family; they are daughters Jade, Jill and Joli and their spouses.  She had beloved grandchildren; they are Jill D., Shana, Joel, Stephanie, Kade, Vanessa, Stuart and Nora and their spouses.  Then came the great-grandchildren, Julian (and Hailey), Maia, Elijah, Owen and Oliver. Moreover, she knew the names of all their dogs and cats (with an occasional rabbit, parakeet or canary) and often asked about them before anyone else.  She had a practice of praying for all of us frequently and quietly, whether we knew it or not. As she approached death and her memory faded, she could still recite the Lord’s Prayer, the 23rd Psalm and some knock-knock jokes told by Joli.

She had studied art at Mount Mary college and had a deep, lifelong appreciation of beauty. She had a way of buying décor, fabric and clothing at second-hand stores to decorate her spaces so graciously.  Her creative gift transformed the plain to the beautiful.  It was also noted that she unfailingly expressed sincere gratitude for the assistance she was given by Eastcastle staff.  Her quiet and gentle presence will be missed.
