Cynthia Marie Leclerc (nee Vezina)

January 20,1943 – May 1, 2026

Cynthia Marie Leclerc, 83, of Bluffton (Sun City), South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home in the early hours of May 1, 2026, after a valiant fight against lung disease. Cynthia was born on January 20,1943 in Troy, New Hampshire to Leon and Georgiana Vezina. She graduated from high school and worked as a receptionist in the same factory her mom worked in until she met her first husband in 1965. Cynthia moved to Milwaukee, WI to marry him and raise three children. She was a loving, creative, beautiful mom who loved to garden, sew, bake and decorate- sometimes combining those things: sewing curtains from sheets so that she could put her creative touches on them or baking decorative salt dough loaves that she would shellac and hang on the kitchen wall. She volunteered as a school nurse and den mother for Boy Scouts. She was great at everything she put effort into. Unfortunately, that marriage was not meant to last and a new stage began for everyone. Wanting to return to her roots, Cynthia moved back to NH in 1988. She met the love of her life, Richard LeClerc, in 1989 at a dance when they felt an instant connection. They married on New Year’s Eve in 1992. During the years they were together, they really enjoyed being grandparents, even allowing two of their children to live at home with them while their grandchildren were babies, cementing a closeness rarely enjoyed with grandchildren. They traveled to Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Utah, New Mexico, Texas and Florida to visit their family and friends and for their own enjoyment, especially taking an interest in Savannah, GA.

Over the years, Cynthia went from being a secretary for a friend and owner of a laundromat to a legal secretary, to sales for a manufacturer – and she really loved sales. She found that she was good at it and loved that it involved trade shows and travel, taking her as far as Germany. She retired in 2000 when they moved to Melbourne, FL and had the time to go back to her roots as a decorator, crafter and gardener. After several more moves, they eventually landed in South Carolina where she lived the rest of her life. It was a hard last decade for her. She battled breast cancer in 2017 with serious doses of chemo and radiation. But she came out the other end a survivor and we all saw just how brave and strong she was. COPD eventually kept her from enjoying so many things that she liked, like traveling and shopping and going out, but she always found a way to go on and fight the fight. She still loved a party, just at home and maybe a bit less drink. In the end, the pain became too much and she decided on her own terms that she was ready to be at peace. She made what we assume were very hard phone calls to alert her closest family what her plans were and she passed away peacefully 7 days later. Some of us got to witness her passing and we can attest that somehow, she made even that beautiful.

Cynthia is survived by her devoted husband, Richard LeClerc, her sons William Hofmeister III and Randolph Hofmeister (Jessica Black) and her daughter Kristen (Paul) Siverling, as well as her grandchildren, Layne Hofmeister (Chris Oelke), Ayden Hofmeister, Logan Hofmeister and Griffin Hofmeister. She is further survived by her brothers Leon (Brenda) Vezina and Anthony Vezina (Christine Wallace) and sister Julianne Drews, as well as her niece Jennifer (Tim) Lynch and her nephews Scott (Vicki) Vezina, Ty (Nicole) Vezina, TJ (Stephanie) Vezina, Tim (Jami) Vezina, Alex Drews (Liz Thompson) and Cory (Courtney) Drews. She is preceded in death by family and friends including her best friend Sandy, who she’s sure to be with as this is written. *Since Cynthia’s passing, she’s been joined by her sister-in-law and friend, Brenda Vezina.

“She is forever in our hearts”
