Our dear father, (A.) Bela Maroti passed away peacefully with friends and family on December 13th, 2022, in Milwaukee, WI.  He was 92 years old.

His memorial service will be 11 am on Friday January 6th, 2023 at the Chapel located inside Saint John’s on the Lake, 1840 N. Prospect Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53202.

Bela was a loving and devoted husband to Helen and then to Julie, getting remarried after Helen passed. He was a wise and loving father to Lisa Maroti, Kelly Maroti (Kevin) Yamaguchi and his step-daughter Jenifer (John) Berg, his late step-son Tim Stine (Renee) (Kim) and step-son Jonathan Stine (Sandy).

Bela survived escaping from Hungary in his teens. He was overjoyed when in 1953, he received a student visa to continue his studies in the United States and arrived in the United States on the day President Eisenhower was inaugurated. He continued his graduate studies in theology at the Cistercian Institute in Wisconsin and was ordained to the Catholic priesthood in 1954.

Bela’s expertise in the field of the clinical treatment of alcoholism and other addictions was recognized nationally and internationally. Along with founding De Paul Hospital for those in recovery from addiction, he was a board member of the American College of Addiction Treatment Administrators and Alcohol and Drug Abuse Problems of North America. He sat on several boards.

He served on the board of The Christine Center in WI over many years.  As a commitment to the Florentine Opera Company, Bela and Julie established an endowment for high school students to be able to attend the opera. Also, he and Julie established an endowment at St. John’s to bring the Florentine Opera Company to St. John’s twice a year.

He is survived also by seven grandchildren, many great grandkids, cousins, friends and sister, niece and nephew in Hungary.
