Judy Ann Ulma

May 25, 1941 – October 4, 2026

Judy Ann Ulma (nee Magrecke) passed away unexpectedly on October 4, 2026, at the age of 85. Her sudden absence leaves an enormous space in a family who loved her deeply and a world that feels noticeably quieter without her in it.

For nearly 50 years, Judy called Dousman home, surrounded by the woods she loved so dearly. She was happiest outdoors-among the trees, wildlife, and quiet beauty of nature. Animals always had a special place in her heart, and dogs, in particular, were never simply pets; they were family.

The home Judy shared with her family became the setting for decades of life together: summer days, holidays, laughter, family gatherings, and countless moments that seemed ordinary at the time but now feel priceless.

Judy loved fiercely. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, DeeAnn Kraus; an adoring grandmother to Cassidy Weyers and Kelsie Kraus; and an immensely proud great-grandmother to Elena and Damien.

Cassidy and Kelsie will forever remember childhood summers spent with Grandma-performing living room concerts, sneaking candy into the movie theater, and learning handstands from a woman who was somehow still doing them herself well into her 60s. Years later, Judy brought that same playful spirit to Elena and Damien, doing her very best to keep up with whatever game, adventure, or idea they convinced her to join next.

Judy was vibrant, resilient, quick-witted, wonderfully opinionated, and famously stubborn-a combination her family lovingly attributed to her Polish roots. She had an unmistakable sense of humor, an equally unmistakable eye roll, and a talent for offering commentary whether anyone had asked for it or not. Those who knew her best would not have wanted her any other way.

She also had a gift for appreciating the uncomplicated things in life. Judy’s signature meal was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich-simple, reliable, and very much her. It became one of those small details that will forever bring a smile to the people who loved her.

Judy shared a particularly close bond with her sister, Gloria, whom she loved dearly. And for nearly six decades, she shared her life with her beloved husband, David J. Ulma. Together they built a home, raised their family, and created a life rooted in love, loyalty, and the kind of everyday companionship that becomes irreplaceable.

David passed away on September 2, 2025. Judy missed him deeply in the year that followed. Her family wishes with all their hearts that their reunion had not come so soon, but there is comfort in knowing that the person she had longed to see again was waiting for her.

Judy is survived by her cherished daughter, DeeAnn Kraus; her granddaughters, Cassidy Weyers and Kelsie Kraus; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Elena and Damien.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David J. Ulma; her sister, Gloria Mae Henkel; and her parents, Joseph and Helen Magrecke.

Judy will be found in all the places and little things that became unmistakably hers: in the woods surrounding the home she loved, in dogs curled up nearby, in holiday conversations and well-timed eye rolls, in peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and in the stories her family will tell for years to come.

There will always be another “Remember when Grandma…”

And somewhere in those stories-in the laughter, the stubbornness, the love, and all the beautiful chaos she brought with her-Judy will still be there.

The family will celebrate Judy’s life with a funeral service at Heritage Funeral Home (4800 S. 84th St. Greenfield) on October 9th, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation held at the same location beginning at 11:00 AM. Judy will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery privately.

She will be missed beyond words and loved beyond a lifetime.
