Wayne died unexpectedly on October 22nd, 2017 age 85. He was a loving husband of Dorothy Fennig. Caring father of Fred (Debbie) and Stacy Zimmermann. Also survived by treasured grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-daughters and their families.
Wayne was born in Edgar, Wisconsin on March 26th, 1932. He was the only son of Fred Herman and Priscilla Minerva Valentine Zimmermann. He married Beverly Faye Ziemba on October 13th, 1951. They were married for 57 years. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Beverly.
Wayne was an accomplished musician, playing his saxophone with the 29th Army Band, popular 60’s group “Zim and the Saints”, and most recently, “Generation Gap”. He was also an avid sailor, multi-time champion of Lake Michigan regattas, and served as Commodore of the M.A.S.T. Sailing club. Wayne remained active throughout his life as a musician, sailor, skier, golfer, and cyclist.
Wayne was a Korean War Veteran and recently flew to Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight program. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and played with the 29th Army Band.
The family invites friends to celebrate Zim’s life on Thursday, November 2nd from 4-7PM at the funeral home. A celebration of life service will be held at 6PM. Casual attire please.
