Age 97, a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026. Born on July 3, 1929, in Appleton, Wisconsin, Virginia was one of fourteen children of Conrad and Teresa Grishaber. At an early age she entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame and faithfully devoted herself to teaching as her primary ministry. Her vocation later extended to the Milwaukee Public Schools, where she continued to share her gift for education with generations of students. For many years Virginia made her home on Milwaukee’s south side with her dearest friends, Jean and Rose. She possessed a profound love and compassion for the poor and underprivileged, offering whatever resources she could to ease their burdens and improve their lives. A true rescuer at heart, she regularly fed feral cats, assisted the homeless, and served as a steadfast prayer warrior for her friends and extended family. Young children held a special place in her heart; their presence never failed to light up her smile and draw forth her warm, affectionate hugs. A committed believer in Jesus Christ, Virginia lived her faith with humility, unconditional love, works of charity, and grace. She was also a lover of nature, a passionate reader, and someone who thoroughly enjoyed both listening to and singing music. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Grishaber, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends who deeply treasure the lasting imprint she left on their lives.
