Theresa
Smolic

Smolic, Theresa “Resi”
(nee Wenzel) Born to Eternal Life on Monday, March 4, 2019, at the age of 91 years. Her family celebrates not merely her memory but the values she instilled in them to persevere through unspeakable odds, find joy in every moment, and provide a better world for their children than the one they were born into.

She was born in Ernsthausen, in the Banat region of Yugoslavia, to Katharina (Fischer) and Michael Wenzel on January 24, 1928. She persevered through wartime trauma and life as a refugee. Those experiences left her with chronic pain, yet with strength and determination she made the best out of every situation, often with a smile on her face. She came to the United States in 1949 with her late husband Josef and a newborn at her side. She learned yet another language, built a home, started her own drapery and upholstery business, and raised a family that would become her pride and joy.

Loving mom of Erika (Ken) Gardner, Joe (Loretta), Tom (Anneliese), and Mary Ann (Dan) Sulik. Dear Oma/Grandma of Brian (Shannon), Kimberly, Karen (Ryan), Joshua (Olya), Lucas, Marcus (Charles), Lauren, Hans (fiancée Karyn), Dan (Katie), Matthew, Stephanie, Kathryn (Thomas), and Tim. Great-grandma of Harlynn. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth Dekorsi.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9, at ST. ANNE’S SALVATORIAN CAMPUS, 3800 N. 92nd Street from 9 to 11AM with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Private family interment St. Louis Catholic Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Anne’s Salvatorian Campus or St. Louis Catholic Church appreciated.
