Salvatore “Sal” Lazaro
Age 87 • Greendale, Wisconsin
With deep gratitude for the time we had with him, we share that Salvatore (Sal) Lazaro, age 87, passed away into the Lord’s loving care, on Wednesday, April 15th, at his home in Greendale, Wisconsin. Sal cherished the life he shared with Marlene (née Pranghofer), “Marnie”, his wife of 37 years. Their partnership was filled with laughter, loyalty, and the kind of everyday love that included a daily dose of teasing and silliness of a shared love so strong.
He is remembered as a loving and caring dad to Salvatore (Suzanne) Lazaro, Toni (David) Gebo, Teresa (Anthony) Catania, and Jennifer (Steven) Hastings. Nothing made him more proud than his role as a father; he loved his kids with all of his heart, and that was matched by a deep devotion they held for him.
He is a proud Grandpa and Papa to Salvatore (Tabitha) Lazaro, Kelly (Clayton) Kimme, Katie (Alfred) Bonnell, Brian (Rachel) Gebo, Jason Gebo, Jessica Gebo, Joshua (Andrea) Catania, Nicolette Catania, Samuel Catania, Steven Hastings, and Thy (Lauren) Wallendal.
A Great‑Grandpa to Mckenzie, Leyton, Stella, Kendal, and Jackson Gebo, and Hayden and Grayson Lazaro.
He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives he touched with kindness, laughter, and was always one for jokes, stories, and one‑liners. Affectionately known as “Trouble”, he cherished impromptu gatherings with his neighborhood friends, gathering outside the garage on summer evenings.
The family would like to thank Mimi and Emma for the past few months of really wonderful and tender care-giving for Sal.
Sal proudly served his country in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force, completing six years of dedicated military service. A proud Vietnam‑era Veteran, he carried deep respect for those who served alongside him. One of the great honors of his life was taking part in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight on November 4, 2017; a day that filled him with pride, gratitude, and emotion. As a Disabled Veteran, he continued to support his fellow service members as a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans, Milwaukee Chapter 19.
A lifelong lover of sports, Sal played semi‑pro football with the Sheboygan Redwings. Later in life, he found joy behind the bar; bartending was his favorite. He loved the conversations, the laughter, and the chance to make people feel welcome.
He was a true character: witty, sharp, and unforgettable. His humor filled every room, and his generosity made him the person people naturally turned to. To his family, he was the steady center; the one everyone trusted and leaned on, lovingly known as the family’s Godfather.
Sal was a huge family man, happiest when surrounded by the people he loved. He never missed a moment: football games, baseball games, soccer matches, concerts and music gigs, school events, Grandparents’ Day. He showed up for all of it! He welcomed every phone call, every visit, every drop‑in from his grandkids, treating each one like the highlight of his day.
He loved to travel, always ready for the next adventure. No matter where he went, he found joy in visiting zoos: each one a new chance to explore, learn, and laugh. And somehow, he could always find a casino, turning every trip into a story worth retelling. He was a proud member of the Cudahy Vagabonds and the Pompeii Men’s Club, embracing the camaraderie and friendships that came with both.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 20th, from 10am-12pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 4800 S. 84th Street. Greenfield, WI, 53228.
The Funeral Service will take place at 12pm following the visitation at Heritage Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to
