Ruth Babich

A life well lived, Ruth E. Babich (née Simmons) passed away peacefully on September 23rd, 2026, at age 95, with family by her side. Blessedly reunited with Gertrude (Mother), Bertram (Father), Djuro “George” (Husband), Raymond (Brother), Marjorie (Sister), Ian (Nephew), Milorad (Brother-in-Law), Dushanka (Sister-in-Law), and Mirko (Kum) and Hilda (Kuma). Forever grateful for her legacy are her children, Michael (Colleen), Debra and Mark (Jane), and Grandchildren Kyle (Rachel) and Allie, as well as extended family in Canada, Serbia and Germany, Kumovi and countless friends. An elementary school teacher for 34 years, Ruth contributed to the lives of students in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and in Greendale, Wisconsin. Ruth enjoyed all that life has to offer, whether it be academically (Valedictorian of her graduating class), or exploring the four corners of the globe (Spain being her favorite place on earth, aside from St. John’s, Newfoundland, of course). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in her honor be sent to the Wisconsin Humane Society, www.MilwaukeeBoulevardTheatre.com, or the educational charity of your choice. On October 5th, 2026, a “Celebration of Life” service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home (4800 South 84th Street in Greenfield), with Visitation at 12:00 p.m., and a Program at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Good Hope Cemetery (4141 South 43rd Street in Greenfield). Also, a Wake will take place at 2:45 p.m. at Ruth’s favorite restaurant, the Olive Garden (4760 South 76th Street in Greenfield). Please join us to toast Ruth with her favorite libation, a Southern Comfort Old Fashioned Sweet. Don’t forget to request three olives when giving your order! Love is eternal.
