I met Romey 33 years before I knew him! My friend, Johnny and I, traveled all the way to Bay View by bus for a CYO dance. But I had no CYO card yet. The bouncer/checker explained the policy: no card, no entry. We hung around for about 20 minutes just to hear the faint sounds of the music. Then I made a last- ditch effort. I explained to the bouncer/checker why I had no card, showed him my bus transfer and recited portions of the Latin mass! He looked at me for a minute, smiled, and let us in. What a nice guy! I worked with Romey as a brewery worker and in sanitation. He was an excellent filler operator, always diligent to keep the line running smoothly. In sanitation, he was one of the best, when operating the carpet extractor. His motions were always deliberate and methodical. Along with his knowledge of soap/water ratio, the corporate buildings carpets looked like they were done professionally. Romey is just another example of someone who never left his conscience in the locker room. One day during our dinner break, grade schools were the topic. I brought up CYO dances. One thing let to another and I made the connection after 33 years. Romey was the ‘nice guy’. He was pensive for a few minutes, then a smile crossed his face. He made the connection and we both laughed. He really was a nice guy and I apologize for this belated eulogy and am so very sorry to hear of his passing. Sincerely, Rudy Patek
