Romaine J. Schuld
“Joe”

On December 11, 2025, at the age of 94, Romaine went peacefully home to Heaven.

Romaine was born on June 18, 1931, in Town of York, Wisconsin to Leander and Julia (nee Weber) Schuld. He was raised on the family farm where from a young age he worked alongside his father. When speaking of his early years, he would say “I worked like a man” but would quickly follow up with “I was just a kid.” He was riding the tractor at the age of 10 and he loved it. He would often miss school to stay home and work on the farm.

He attended school until 8th grade and at 14 years old; he left home and moved to Wilmette, IL, where he got a job as a janitor and bus driver at an all-girls convent. After two years, he relocated to Cudahy, WI where he was employed as an Inspector at Ladish from 1948 to 1950. Romaine enlisted in the Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Romaine met the love of his life, Doris, at her sixteenth birthday party. They were united in marriage on March 29, 1952, at St. Frederick’s in Cudahy, WI. They spent 63 years together – only separated by Doris’ passing.

Romaine also worked at Magaw Electric and Allis Chalmers before being hired at Metalcut in South Milwaukee as a Quality Control Manager. Romaine would end his career at Metalcut, retiring on March 1, 1996. Retirement didn’t affect his work ethic and Romaine spent the next 25 years volunteering at Human Concerns in South Milwaukee. He also was an accomplished golfer and enjoyed playing golf at Woodland in Oak Creek. He was successful in hitting a hole-in-one twice!

In 2014, he had the privilege to be part of the Stars & Stripes Honor Flight to Washington DC where he was accompanied by his daughter Carol.

Romaine just enjoyed life. He loved polka music – whether he was in the house or the garage, you could catch him tapping his feet and dancing to polka music. He would polka with anyone willing to join him. He would often reminisce about dancing at the Silverdome in Neillsville, WI and would often state “I lived in the best of times. I lived a good life – I wouldn’t have changed a thing.”

In the mid 1990’s Romaine was gifted a green 1978 Chevy Monte Carlo which he had restored. Romaine and his treasured classic became well recognized within the community, whether it was at the golf course, grocery store or driving around town.

Romaine was a resourceful, humble, hardworking and kindhearted guy.

Romaine is survived by his four children; Daniel (Doris) Schuld; Carol (Charlie) Baltutis; Lori Ann (Al) Borchardt and Thomas (Laurie) Schuld; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. He is further survived by 2 brothers, Jerry (Debbie) Schuld and David (Lori) Schuld. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, Infant son John, parents Leander & Julia. A brother, Alfred (Marie) Schuld; and 4 sisters, Elenora (Frank) Long; Margaret (Norbert) Schlegelmilch; Josephine (Louie) Schmidt and Marilyn Ann (Wayne) Miller.

The family is deeply grateful for the care and compassion that was provided to our father and family at both Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee and to the Zilber Family Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Romaine’s memory are suggested to Human Concerns South Milwaukee or Zilber Family Hospice.

Romaine was my husband’s cousin and the older brother of his best friend Jerry. I only met Romaine twice but feel like I knew him thanks to the stories shared by my husband and Romaine’s brother Jerry. One story in particular stands out to me. Romaine and his families farm was down the road in Loyal Wisconsin from my husband and his families farm circa early 1940’s and the kids attended Pleasant View School – a one room school house. As the story goes, they often walked to school together. One time when they were walking home together probably in the spring, they came to a flooded creek. Romaine picked up his cousin Mary Ann and put her on his shoulders and carried her across the flooded creek. Mary Ann, who was my sister in law, told me that story as did my husband. In reading Romaine “Joe’s” obituary I can tell that he never changed from that person who carried his cousin across a flooded creek. My condolences to his family.

Humbly honored to minister to Romaine and Doris in their journeys back to God and each other. Doris so longingly and lovingly waited to now dance the “Blue Skirt Waltz” with her dear Romaine. And Romaine kept her heart alive with that waltz as she counted on him. What an amazing AGAPE love these two lived for each other and their family. Deepest heartfelt Peace to you, Chaplain Maria
