Richard C. Maringer
Rich died peacefully on Thursday, January 8th at home, surrounded by family.
He was born on February 8, 1933 to Michael Maringer and Mildred Maringer (née Wiedemann) in LaCrosse Wisconsin. He grew up in LaCrosse and graduated from Logan High School in 1950. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951. He became a radio man and also served on the USS Pittsburgh. While attending a St. Patrick’s Day dance sponsored by the Navy, he met the love of his life, Donna Marie Piuser. They were married on June 8, 1954 in Blue Earth, Minnesota at the Methodist Church. They continued to live in Washington DC until Rich’s discharge from the Navy in 1955. They settled first in La Crosse Wisconsin where Rich worked for the La Crosse Cooler Company as a draftsman and he also became involved in the company’s Credit Union as the Treasurer. This started his lifelong career and love of credit unions. In 1967 he took a position with the Wisconsin Credit Union League as a field representative, this took them to Madison for several years, and finally to the Milwaukee area where Rich continued working for the Wisconsin Credit Union League. In 1982 Rich became Vice President of the League before finally retiring in March 1993. They loved to travel, taking many trips to the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii with close friends. For many years they traveled weekends to their cabin in northern Wisconsin, and upon his retirement, they spent winters at their home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, eventually moving to Arizona year-round. They loved Arizona and enjoyed the company of many close friends during their time there. Several years ago, they moved back to Wisconsin, desiring to be closer to family.
Rich enjoyed fishing, was an avid bowler and loved playing cards, especially euchre and cribbage. He played in many cribbage tournaments where he was a master player and was made a cribbidier general by the American Cribbage Congress. He received numerous awards including two for getting a 28 hand in tournament play. Rich was a long time stamp collector, corresponding with others all over the globe in search of stamps to round out his collection. He also loved the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers and could be found taking in a game wherever he was.
Rich is survived by his children, Lynn (Russell) Roelke, Julie (Jim) Rakowiecki, Richard J. (Marina) Maringer. He also loved Nancy Martinho (Joe Barborich) and Dan Roberts as his own. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Tom (Adrianne) Schmidt, Tony (Kathleen) Maringer, Anne Roelke, Andy (Alyssa) Roberts, Chris Maringer, Joe (Emma) Roberts, Melissa (Connor) LeDoux, Shawn Maringer, eleven great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many, many great friends.
Rich was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Donna, his daughter Jennifer Maringer, granddaughter Breanna Roberts, sister Joanne Lund Rattle, and brother Robert Maringer.
Family and friends will gather on Friday January 16, 2026 from 4:00pm – 5pm at Heritage Funeral Home (9200 South 27th Street Oak Creek, WI 53154). Memorial service at 5:15pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Milwaukee PBS, as he was a long time supporter of public television.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Julie and family…I’m so sorry for your loss. I met your dad a couple of times and he was always so sweet. I will always remember his smile! He is now watching over you in Heaven with your mom and your daughter Breanna.. BIG HUGS!
My sincere condolences. He was a man with a soft heart and great smile. He and Donna were the first people I met at WCLU and they certainly made me feel welcome. The best times were playing Euchre until the sun came up, and sometimes having to shovel the driveway (snow) to get out. Stay in touch. I check all the FB accounts (Lynn, Julie, Richie) to see what’s going on. I know you all take care of each other. I am sorry you have had to bear a lot of grief in your young years.
