Paul married Suzanne J. Meyer on August 27, 1960 at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. Paul and Sue were married for over 60 years.

Paul graduated from Concordia in Milwaukee with the great class of 1956 and from Concordia Seminary in St Louis in 1961. He received his Master of Divinity from Concordia as a minister for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. His first call was to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Luzerne Iowa where he served from 1961 to 1967. For the last 2 years he also served as the pastor at First Lutheran Church in Belle Plain Iowa and was instrumental in building a new church that still stands to this day.  He then served as head pastor at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wausau from 1967 to 1976. Paul then decided to enter the chaplain ministry in 1976 and took a permanent job at St. Michael’s Hospital in Milwaukee from 1977 until he retired in 2001.

Paul was an active member of the Lutheran A Cappella Choir of Milwaukee and served on the board of directors for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed singing in the Christmas and spring concerts and was with the group for over 34 years.

From his time as a Chaplain at St. Michael and throughout his retirement, Paul served as a guest preacher at many Milwaukee and Wisconsin Lutheran Churches. Over the years, many members of various churches would comment on his sermons as he saw them from time to time. He served as a vacancy pastor for Emmaus Lutheran Church in Milwaukee for about 1 year.

Paul also served as the secretary for the Contact and Resource Center (CRC) in Beirut, Lebanon and wrote devotions for Creative Communications.

It should also be noted that after his retirement, he served as an adjunct professor at Concordia University Wisconsin where he taught Theology courses in the Adult Education Program. His service there was greatly appreciated by all.

Paul was 3 years ahead of me at Concordia Milwaukee. I remember him as a member of the Varsity Basketball team at Concordia. I didn’t really get to know him until I came into the English District. Midwest Regional conferences were always so memorable because of the conversations that I had with Paul. Paul was a faithful servant of the Lord. “Rest eternal grant him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.”

We have fond memories of meeting Paul in Wisconsin and spending time at family functions, and also having he and Sue visit our young Kohn family out here in San Diego. He was a very bright man full of stories, wisdom and heart. I will always cherish his memories and stories of my grandfather, his brother, Elmer. My heart is with my Wisconsin Eggold family. Love, Joelle

Dear Sue and Family, I just heard this news that Paul is now with his Savior in Heaven. While I know you will miss him on this earth, I pray that the reality of his eternal home, singing praises with all the saints brings you comfort and joy amidst the sadness of not having him here to enjoy on this side of heaven! He was a great mentor to me and source of encouragement while serving at Peace. God’s blessings to you all.
