Raul D. Menendez, 65, died Wed. Sept. 3, 2008 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Raul was born Nov. 12, 1942 in Habana, Cuba, the son of Alfonso and Carmen Menendez.

As a youngster, Raul spent several summers at Culver Ind. Military Academy and later moved to Chicago in 1961. He married the former Genoveva “Genie” Rodriguez in June of 1967 and they were together for 41 years.

Raul spent more than 20 years working as the assistant finance director for the City of Aurora and then started his own accounting business. He was a loving and caring husband, father and brother who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Genie, of Aurora; his daughter, Ana, of Milwaukee; his son, Paul, of Aurora and his brother, Alfonso Ofelia Menendez, of Miami. He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Cristina.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wed., Sept. 17 at 10 AM at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Oswego. Interment will follow in October at Miami Fla. Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the UIC Advanced Robotic Surgery Lab Fund, or your local humane society.
