Marybelle Virginia Durrer (nee Duby)

Called home to the Lord on June 21st, 2025, at age 98. Devoted wife of Joseph Gottfried Durrer. Loving mother of Jody Durrer and Mary Jo Ellers. Grandmother of Morgan (Alex) Hewit, Madison (Connor) Ellers, and Mallory Ellers. Daughter of the Late Charles and Lena (nee Hoover) Duby. Sister of Clair Duby, Helen Smith, Carol Gajdos, and Harold Duby.

Marybelle’s strong Christian faith brought her hope and comfort throughout her whole life.

She had a very active mind, loved to learn, and had a repertoire of unusual words which made her unbeatable in Scrabble. She was an avid reader and loved reading the Bible and books about people and places in history along with books about nutrition and health. Her healthy lifestyle choices afforded her the ability to remain largely independent right up until her passing.

Her life was driven by care for others. While living in California, she ran a daycare in her home and later moved to Kansas and became a CNA and worked in home healthcare. Before his passing, she cared for her bedridden husband with heartfelt attention and utmost dedication.

Marybelle was known for her lively conversations, positive outlook, unwavering faith, clever humor, and fastidious housekeeping.

Private services will be held.

In Marybelle’s honor her family would like for you to gather with the people you love most and always tell them you love them.

I am so sad to hear about the passing of Aunt Marybelle. It’s hard to even think that it’s true. I will surely miss the long conversations I had with her every few months. Boy, how we could talk. Ha! The miles between us didn’t lessen the fondness I had for her. I’m sure she is busy catching up with Jesus and all of her friends and loved ones in heaven. What a happy time it must be. Dear Aunt Marybelle, you will be missed by many.
