Marie Jane (Alitz) Polaski

1914  – 2023

Went home to her heavenly Father Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the age of 109.

Marie was born in the town of Alma, WI where she lived until age 12, eventually moving with her family to Eau Claire, WI. She attended high school through her junior year when circumstances, due to the depression era, made it necessary for her to leave high school and find employment. She was first employed by Webster Candy Co. in Eau Claire, WI for seven years, after which she moved to Milwaukee, WI and found employment at Nesco Products Co. where she worked for over 11 years. During those years she met and married John “Jack” Polaski on May 25, 1946, in the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA.

Marie’s sisters were Melvida (Alitz) Rossow and Leona (Alitz) Starin. Marie treated her sisters’ children and their families as if they were her own. She cared for them deeply and always took great interest in their lives. She loved being with them whenever she could.

She had a fantastic memory, actually being able to recall the exact meals she shared with you from many years ago. She took great pride in her attire, always impeccably dressed. Her home was beautifully decorated, very neat and clean. She crocheted, knitted, and painted ceramic pieces, and was a wonderful cook. She loved to talk about special dishes she made…actually, she simply loved to talk and converse with family and friends and at the age of 109 she could maintain conversations for hours on end.

Marie is survived by one nephew, Gary (Lori) Rossow (Apopka, FL), and niece Joan (Ronald) Hrubesch (Eau Claire, WI) as well as many grand and great grand nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband John Polaski, two sisters Melvida (Arthur) Rossow, and Leona (Ray) Starin and brother Fremont “Buddy” Alitz, three nephews James Rossow, Dennis Starin, and David Starin, and her parents Alvira and Herman Alitz.

There will be no funeral service and the burial will be at Arlington Park Cemetary in Milwaukee, WI.

Gary and Lauri, I am so sorry to hear of Marie’s passing. I loved her very much, and it was my pleasure to get to know her and care for her for the last few years. I enjoyed many conversations with her and enjoyed hearing about her life, her family, the trips she took and and learning about her friends at the community center. I will treasure her memory always in my heart! God bless you both for all you did for her as well. Love, Mary Herman from Holding Hands Home care.
