Leona T. Flom

Leona T. Flom, 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 5th at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. Born to the late Theodore and Hattie (nee Kanikula) Krzewina, Leona was raised in the small, northern Wisconsin town of Wausaukee, where she attended St. Augustine Parochial School. During her early years she helped her parents run the Wausaukee Hotel with her four siblings. Railroad workers, fisherman, and deer hunters were regular guests at the well-established inn. While later attending Wausaukee High School, Leona met and fell in love with her life-long sweetheart, Carl Flom.
After graduating from high school in 1954, Leona moved to Milwaukee, WI. There, she honed her business skills, working at Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co. and A.O. Smith Credit Union while Carl attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. They were married in 1958, residing a few short years in Milwaukee before moving to Greenfield, WI and starting their family. While raising their three children, Leona began working for the Greenfield School System, taking positions of increasing responsibility in the school system’s food service program until her retirement in 1987. Leona and Carl later moved to Greendale and spent their final 25 years together in Muskego. They remained devoted to each other until his passing in 2014. Leona enjoyed the outdoors of Northern Wisconsin and spending time with family and friends playing board games and building puzzles.
She is survived by her three children Cynthia (Ronald) Rux, of Waukesha, Duane (Judy), of Port Washington, and Diane (Rob) Weiss, of Delafield; sister Barbara (Michael) Schlies; brother Leonard (Carol) Krzewina; brother-in-law Harold Simon; six grandchildren and spouses; seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald, and sister, Rita.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 14th from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m., at ST. MARTIN OF TOURS CATHOLIC CHURCH (7963 S. 116th Street, Franklin, WI). Private interment will be held in Athelstane, WI.
In lieu of flowers, Leona wished for donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

I will always remember how Leona and Carl would visit my family when I was young. Before they left, they would always give us a couple dollars to pay for fishing bait, and that was always what it was used for. Time at their cottage when I was a child was always enjoyable. Leona always had the biggest smile, and it is well represented in the obituary.
