Guthrie, Laverne D., (nee Goebel), age 99, passed away on March 2, 2017, leaving her family with wonderful memories of Christmas cookies, stockings, and angels. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, brothers Clarence and Jim, and sister Marilyn. She is survived by her sons Jim (Barb), Joe (Mary), grandsons Mike (Elsie), Jim (Rachel), Chris (Amy) and David (Krissy) Guthrie. She was loved by her three great-grand-daughters Makayla, Mya, and Ava Guthrie.

Laverne was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. A member of First Lutheran Church, West Allis for over 80 years, she sang in the choir, attended and taught Bible classes, helped with Vacation Bible School, counting collections, and giving church members rides to church for as long as she could drive. She was a school secretary in the West Allis-West Milwaukee School district for 34 years where she made many life-long friends.

Visitation will be Monday, March 6 at First Lutheran Church, 7400 W. Lapham from 10:00AM-10:45AM with Funeral Service at 11AM. Private Entombment at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Lutheran Church would be appreciated.

The family wished to thank Laverne’s caregivers at Layton Terrace, West Allis Memorial Hospital, 5th floor, and Vitas Ruth Hospice. Special thanks to Pastor Bryant Bakkum for his visits and words of encouragement and comfort.
