Kenneth R. Shea

“Captain Ken”

Born to Eternal Life on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the remarkable age of 100 years.

Ken lived a century filled with love, laughter, music, adventure, and countless memories. Known affectionately as “Captain Ken,” he had a wonderful spirit and a zest for life that never faded. He believed every birthday was worth celebrating to the fullest, and he made sure those special days were filled with joy, laughter, and the people he loved.

A proud United States Army veteran of World War II, Ken carried his pride in serving his country throughout his life. He was a man who appreciated the simple pleasures and knew how to make the most of every moment.

Ken had a deep love for boating, dancing, and just about anything that involved music. A true music lover, he was happiest when there was a song playing and a reason to get up and dance. Whether enjoying time on the water, celebrating a birthday, or gathering with loved ones, Ken brought his enthusiasm and unmistakable personality wherever he went.

His greatest joy in life was his family and friends. Ken cherished the time spent with those closest to him, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud Poppy, and great-grandpa whose family was always at the center of his world.

And, of course, no story about Ken would be complete without mentioning his favorite sweet treats. He had a special place in his heart for pastries, gummy worms and butter pecan ice cream from Kopp’s. Those who knew him will smile remembering that sometimes the best way to make Captain Ken happy was with a little something sweet!

Beloved husband of the late Dorris (nee Lach), with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Loving father of the late Kenn (Veronica), Nicolette, and Jennifer (Duane). Loving Poppy of Eric, Kevin, Katy, Crystal, Mariah, Layla, and Olivia. Proud great-grandpa of Brody, Alex, Bianca, and Nina. Also survived by other relatives and many dear friends.

Ken’s life was a beautiful reminder to celebrate often, enjoy the music, cherish your loved ones, and never pass up an opportunity for a little fun. His laughter, stories, love of life, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the VA Hospital, St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care, Home Helpers, and Elite Hospice for their compassion, kindness, and assistance in Ken’s care and well-being. A special thank you to John Miller, a dear friend for always being there for Ken.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, November 13th, from 10:00–11:30 AM at Heritage Funeral Homes (4800 S. 84th St., Greenfield), followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 AM.

If so desired, memorials to St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care appreciated.
