Long

Katherine “Katie” Jane Long, (nee Van Gorder), age 42 years, passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2021 in Milwaukee.

Preceded in death by her loving mother Mary Katherine Van Gorder (nee Rozwadowski). Beloved daughter of Terrance (Lory Bresina) Van Gorder. Adoring sister and aunt to Mark (Heidi) Van Gorder (Caiden, Cora, Cole, Caius), John (Leah) Van Gorder (Cameron, Samantha, Mason, Jailyn, Aiden John), Joel (Rebecca Gregory) Van Gorder (Graham), Annie (Juan Garcia) Van Gorder (Maximiliano, Manuel, Lucas, Julia), Mollie (Ramon Macias) Van Gorder (Iliana, Isabella, Benjamin, Vaida) , Carrie Van Gorder, Laurie Van Gorder, Amanda (John Ehn) Van Gorder, Prairie (Joe Sass) Markussen (Ceridwin), Nathan Markussen, Rebecca (Rick Baas) Carvalho, and John Paul (Krista Chamberlain) Carvalho.

Many others loved, and were loved by, Katie: Best friend and cousin, Emily (Gabe Conroe) Rozwadowski. Aunts and Uncles: Cora Sue Rozwadowski, Thomas (Piyu) Rozwadowski, James Rozwadowski, Timothy (Susan McCarthy) Rozwadowski, Jane Frances Rozwadowski, Lori Ann Rozwadowski, Patti Jo (Robert) Marshall, Angela Rae (Ron) Jackson, Philip (Julie) Rozwadowski, Jule Renee (John) Lacey, Dore Marie Rozwadowski and Nicholas Rozwadowski. Further survived by many loving cousins, family, and dear friends. Katie was preceded in death by her Aunt Sue Ann Van Gorder and her sister-in-law, Rebecca Van Gorder (nee Duncan).

Katie was a graduate of St. Joan Antida High School and attended Alverno College. She worked many years for the City of Milwaukee and enjoyed serving the community she loved. Katie spent her childhood on the Southside of Milwaukee but lived almost her entire adult life as a proud East Sider. We will remember Katie’s big heart, dry sense of humor, passion for social justice, and her uncanny ability to give the perfect gift. We will miss screaming at the tv with her during a Sunday Packer game, closing Wolski’s on a Friday night, dancing our butts off to “Return of The Mack”, and watching her be the silly, slightly crazy, but devoted Auntie. The love and devotion that she has shown to all who love her will carry on in our hearts forever. We love you, Katie.

Services will be held at Suminski Funeral Home on Friday, January 15, 2021. Visitation from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with a service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Milwaukee Women’s Center, 728 N James Lovell St, Milwaukee, WI 53233, and are greatly appreciated.
