Stanczak, Joseph Patrick

Joseph found peace with the Lord Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the age of 89. Happy to join his dear son Timothy “Timmy” in heaven who passed away in 2008. He died peacefully with his wife and children by his side. Beloved husband to Mary nee Mosconi for 63 years. Loving and wonderful father to Patrick Diane Stanczak, Gail Tom Gustafson, Mary Jo Jeff Greilich. Joe was born on March 17, 1922 in Ironwood, Michigan. Joe graduated from Hurley High School in 1941 and then went on to proudly serve in World War II flying B-17’s in the U.S. Army Air Corps later known as the U.S. Air Force. Besides serving on the European Front, he survived numerous flights over the infamous “Hump.” Upon his return from the service he attended U.W. Madison and graduated from the School of Economics in 1950. He remains a proud Badger.
Dedicated employee of GM Delco Electronics where he was a Supervisor of Industrial Engineering up until his retirement in 1985. Joe played an integral part in the Apollo Space Program.
He was a charter and active member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and the Men’s Holy Name Society. Joe was the first Boy Scout Troop #536 Leader and also Boy Scout Explorers Post. Joe served on St. Greg’s parish council, Penance crew, Parish Festival committee, Dartball team and St. Ben’s Meal Program – which meant the world to him.
Joe loved his family more than anything. He enjoyed family vacations together as well as many family gatherings . He loved all sports but his passion was trout fishing and deer hunting at his family hunting camp in Northern Wisconsin, as well as a good round of golf with his buddies.
Joe was a kind man with a wonderful heart who was generous with his time and his talent. He will live on in our hearts forever.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Heartland Home Hospice for all the loving care given to him.

My sincere condolences to Mary and the rest of Joe’s family. Joe hired me at Delco in 1978, and was my boss for 4 years. I learned a lot from Joe and he was a great boss.
