Jerry
Beecher

Penny Beecher was born Jerry Pennington to John and Mary Pennington in Jackson, Mississippi on March 30, 1946. At that time, Americans were recovering from WWII and growth in industry and jobs gave workers the opportunity to build homes and start families. The Pennington family included Penny’s siblings Laura, Shirley, Mary, Anthony, Pat, Johnnie and Joe. Quite naturally, their mother was home caring for the eight children while their father worked hard to support his family at his tire business and at other jobs.

Penny completed her high school education and her life’s work was focused on family. She married Richard Wick, and the two of them were blessed with three children: David, Mark and Shirley.

Penny’s life was filled with activities that could be done in the comfort of her home: stamping, card making, reading romance novels, watching old Westerns, and listening to or singing Old Time Hymns & Southern Gospel. Music and Bible reading were constant sources of spiritual encouragement to Penny, and she found great contentment in worshiping and being part of the community at Apostolic Faith Church. She was known for her compassion and generosity. She wouldn’t think twice about giving away her last dollar or offering a meal and even her home to someone who needed a little help.

In May of 1986, Richard passed away when Penny was only 40 years old, and she and her young children were on their own for several years. Yet her unwavering faith and childlike trust in God sustained her through difficulty.

In time, Penny met Joe Beecher at church, and on February 14, 1992 the two were joined in marriage in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Of all the joys that Penny experienced as a wife, mother and grandmother, it was her relationship with God that mattered most. It made her the woman she was and the person who was loved by her family and friends.
