Jeanne Prey

Jeanne passed away on January 20, 2026; she was 100 years young. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Hal. She is the loving mother of Gregory (Allison), Christopher (Bonnie), Lisa (Patrick) and Douglas (Patti); the cherished grandmom of Nicholas (Jenna), Hillary (Scott), Julia (Jack), Meg (Kalen), David (Harry), Stephen (Cathie), Emily (Philip), and Allison (Rohit); and the proud great-grandmom of Alexa, Charlotte, Bode, Brooklyn, Crew, Sully, Lily, Sophie, Grace, Paige, Quinn, and a great grandson who will arrive in June. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good and dear friends in both Florida and Wisconsin.

Jeanne lived her life with grace, intelligence, and an unmistakable sense of humor. She appreciated a good joke—often laughing hardest when she herself was the punchline. She delighted in laughing with her family, smiling easily and often. She loved having a good time, whether it was enjoying a good Cosmo, playing cards (despite being famously unlucky), or spending time with the many people who were lucky to call her a friend.

An avid reader with a sharp intellect, Jeanne transitioned seamlessly from books to her Kindle when her eyesight began to fail, never losing her love of learning. She kept up with politics, appreciated the fine arts, and could more than hold her own in any conversation. Curious, insightful, and perceptive, she remained mentally sharp to the very end. She was blessed with a spectacular memory and enjoyed sharing the family history with the most amazing detail.

Family was the center of Jeanne’s life. A classy matriarch, she led with kindness, goodness, and quiet strength—qualities she credited to her beloved grandmom, Mary Ann, who raised her. She often said how lucky she was to have been brought up by her grandmom, and that gratitude shaped the way she lived: rarely complaining, always putting others first, and meeting even life’s hardest moments head-on. She died as she lived—with quiet grace and dignity.

Jeanne maintained a full and vibrant social life and enjoyed dinners out with both family and friends. When she gave up driving, Jeanne’s friends rallied around her—always making sure she had a ride to every outing. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of staying connected with those she loved through emails and Facebook on her iPad. As social as she was, she also cherished solitude and quiet, finding balance between companionship and reflection.

Professionally, Jeanne worked at Gimbels in fine jewelry, where her taste and elegance were a natural fit. She was also deeply committed to giving back, volunteering with numerous organizations and believing strongly in supporting her community and those less fortunate. Her life was a living example of graciousness, generosity, and service.

Jeanne leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of love, friendship, and service to others. Her wide circle of devoted friends stand as a testament to the warmth and authenticity with which she lived her life. Jeanne will be remembered as a woman of class, humor, intellect, and heart, whose presence enriched countless lives – she will be greatly missed by all those fortunate to have known her.

Jeanne’s family wishes to thank the many friends for their countless acts of kindness shown to Jeanne over the years. Additional thanks goes to the staff at Angel’s Grace and Legacy Hospice as well as to Aimee Schmitt, PA for their loving care and compassion.

A celebration of Jeanne’s life will be held at a later date.

So sorry for your loss. Lori always spoke the highest of her Aunt Jean and Uncle Hal. I am sure right now they are having a joke and a slice of Ann’s pizza looking down on us. God bless.
